Effective immediately, the Human Resources Department will accept online applications for the position of Kid’s Choice Program Lead for the South St. Paul Public School District. This is a 12-month, 7.5 hour per day position (7 hours paid), and reports to the Kid’s Choice Program Supervisor and Director of Community Education.  The hourly rate of pay is $20.16 per hour, based on the 2021-23 master agreement between SSP School District #6 and Education Minnesota South St. Paul Educational Support Professionals Local No. 7312 Agreement

Job Summary 

Perform the day-to-day activities of teaching students while guiding children’s behavior in a consistent, positive style. Provide a quality, age appropriate varied curriculum within a school age care program under the guidance of the Site Supervisor and Director of Community Education

Job Functions

  • Plan, manage and create the flow of activities on site for the program. Create calendars to share activity schedules. 

  • Write, implement and post weekly lesson plans.

  • Assist with and update  Kids’ Choice, site newsletter.

  • Provide support to staff and students for student behaviors and incidence. Assist the site supervisor in setting up the site/program behavior standards.

  • Document and communicate with families and leadership when student behaviors and injuries occur.

  • Provide work direction to program assistants and youth workers, children and procedures within the Kids’ Choice program.

  • Assist in orientation of new staff, families and children to the program.

  • Take daily attendance. Connect with the site supervisor when children are absent for the program.

  • Lead afternoon snack distribution. Prep snack, manage and record daily snack usage.

  • Interact, supervise and engage with students’ participation in the School-Age care program.

  • Design and maintain a supportive, safe classroom environment.

  • Assist in the organization of the site for summer, non-school day and school year.  

  • Assist with the maintenance of student files, supplies, and first aid kits. Create shopping lists of supplies needed.

  • Contact Site supervisor as needed for support or regarding questions or decisions.

  • Supervise and monitor students at all times; supervise indoor and outdoor play, participate and intervene as necessary.

  • Communicate on a regular basis with parents/guardians and school staff.

  • Implement emergency procedures when needed, including performance of CPR.

  • Dispense medication to participants as directed by the licensed school nurse. 

 

Other functions of the job include but are not limited to the following:

  • Oversee and maintain daily schedules, rosters and accurate counts of children as needed.

  • Perform other general duties as assigned to accomplish the objectives of the program.

  • Participate in meetings, staff development training programs as assigned.

  • Minimum of a two-year college degree.

  • Knowledge of child development.

  • Experience with special needs children is desirable.

  • Must demonstrate positive interpersonal skills and communicate effectively both orally and in writing with parents/guardians and school staff.

  • Ability to understand and follow data privacy rules and regulations related to students    and maintain confidentiality.

  • Ability to discriminate between serious from less serious incidents.

  • Ability to recognize and determine appropriate actions and reactions to situations based on development levels of children.

  • Knowledge of emergency procedures.

  • Must have a high degree of flexibility.

  • Must have the ability and proven record of reporting to work on a regular and punctual basis.

  • Maintain positive and cooperative working relationships with colleagues and others in the conduct of district business and demonstrate teamwork in daily activities.

  • Is prompt, timely, and thorough in completing assignments and attending to details accurately and efficiently.

  • Demonstrate prompt, regular, and reliable attendance.

 

Physical Requirements:

Physically capable of meeting all performance responsibilities required with students, including moderate standing, walking, stooping, bending, and kneeling.  Presenting information to students and lifting up to 20 pounds.
