POSITION TITLE: Instructional Coach/Curriculum Coordinator

DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Building Principal

POSITION STATUS: Exempt

CORE HOURS: Monday to Friday, 7:45 am to 4:15 pm

DUTY DAYS: 187

COMPENSATION: Salary from $58,000 to $62,000 annually (based on previous experience and education)

POSITION PURPOSE:
The Instructional Coach supports classroom teachers to improve student learning with a focus on helping teachers implement evidence based instructional strategies/practices through the use of effective, data driven decision making. The Instructional Coach will focus on individual and group professional development that will expand and refine the understanding about evidence based instructional practices.  The role of Curriculum Coordinator will support the building in the review and selection of up to date, standards aligned curriculum. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Instructional Coach

  • Serves as a non evaluative resource for classroom teachers. The instructional coach fulfills this task by any or all of the following activities:

    • Models for, team teaches with, and coaches teachers on implementation of evidence based instructional strategies/practices.

    • Helps to conduct fidelity of implementation of professional practices, student behavior plans, PBIS, accommodations and modifications.

    • Coaches teachers in the development and refinement of classroom tasks, classroom management, lesson planning,  instruction, and assessments.

    • Coaches teachers in the effective use of paraprofessional support and supervision.

  • Assists with integration of technology in classrooms to support learning.

  • Creates a collaborative plan for improving instruction with designated classroom teachers.

  • Coaches teachers on effective assessment practices including both formative and summative assessments.

  • Coaches teachers on improving opportunities to respond in classrooms.

  • Provides feedback to new teachers.

 

Curriculum Coordinator

  • Assist Building Leadership in planning, coordinating, implementing and evaluating all curriculum.

  • Report curriculum related updates and changes to teachers, administration, school board and community members.

  • Maintain or create up to date curriculum maps and other curriculum information.

  • Work with the Transition Coordinator to ensure alignment between Transition curriculum and all other curriculum.

 

OTHER POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collect, analyze and interpret data in order to solve problems and/or troubleshoot potential issues in student learning and teaching techniques/methods.

  • Assist in developing district academic goals.

  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.

COMPETENCIES: 

  • Knowledge of Minnesota Academic Standards and Minnesota Alternate Achievement Standards.

  • Knowledge of evidence based instructional strategies/practices and their impact on student learning.

  • Ability to:

    • develop an effective rapport with teachers and administrators and paraprofessionals,

    • work well with a team and comply with supervisory direction,

    • to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, and

    • to effectively present information in oneโ€onโ€one and small group situations to staff, parents, students, administrators and the public.

  • Knowledge of adult learning theory.

  • Awareness of autism and its manifestations, willingness to work with students with ASD.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Minnesota Teaching License.

  • Three to Five years teaching experience

  • Two to Three years of Instructional Coaching experience

  • Ability to operate a computer and the software necessary to complete the required job tasks, such as Google Suite and Microsoft office suite applications or ability to adapt to these applications.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with tact and discretion, plan, manage and coordinate multiple work assignments. 

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in a field related to curriculum and instruction.

  • Experience as a mentor or instructional coach both in general education and/or special education settings.

  • Dual licensure in special education and general education.

  • Previous experience in the areas of instructional coaching and curriculum coordination.

  3. Employee is occasionally required to drive.

  4. Tasks involve the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5 to 10 pounds).

  5. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.

  6. Noise level is that of a typical school or office setting.
