Duties and Responsibilities:
Membership Management:
- Oversee the NHS application process, including eligibility notifications, application reviews, and formal induction ceremonies.
- Ensure members meet all requirements, including maintaining a 3.5 GPA, attending monthly meetings, participating in group events, and completing community service hours.
- Collect and manage member data, including meeting participation, event involvement, GPA, and dues.
Event Coordination:
- Plan and execute group events, such as Red Cross Blood Drives, Homecoming events, Teacher Appreciation Week celebrations, and Feed My Starving Children events.
- Manage community service participation by coordinating with supervisors, teachers, principals, and community leaders to fulfill volunteer requests.
Communication and Administration:
- Intercept and communicate volunteer requests, create and monitor sign-up spreadsheets, and connect volunteers with event supervisors.
- Run monthly full-member meetings, offered before and after school on the second Monday of each month.
- Establish and organize the executive board, delegate duties, and provide training.
- Monitor the completion of executive board duties and ensure effective operation of the NHS chapter.
Event and Activity Supervision:
- Oversee school and group activities, including but not limited to Homecoming events, blood drives, and Feed My Starving Children.
- Chaperone MAHS events and field trips, including the Summer Leadership Retreat, Fall Leadership Forum, and State Conference.
Application Process Management:
- Conduct informational meetings for applicants, manage Schoology course for applicants, and monitor application submissions and teacher recommendation completions.
- Establish and train the staff review board, run review board meetings, and communicate acceptance or rejection decisions via mailed letters.
- Organize and execute the formal induction ceremony, including creating programs, slideshows, scripts, and coordinating with staff speakers and administrators.
Advisory Role:
- Attend academic awards ceremonies, distribute and collect sashes at graduation, and present scholarships.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with students, staff, and community members.
- Leadership skills to guide and mentor students, particularly the executive board.
- Ability to coordinate and manage events, including logistics, volunteer coordination, and supervision.
- Knowledge of the NHS principles and requirements, as well as the ability to enforce and uphold these standards.
- Familiarity with using digital tools such as Schoology and Google Forms for application and data management.
- Flexibility to manage responsibilities year-round, including during summer months.
Requirements:
- Experience in student advising, event planning, and volunteer coordination is preferred.
- Commitment to fostering an environment that promotes academic excellence, leadership, service, and character among students.

Nominal Stipend:
The district will pay the coach a fixed stipend as delineated in the Tiger Athletic, Arts, and Activities (TAAA) matrix, Column H
The stipend amount is considered a “nominal stipend”. The amount of the stipend will not change based on the number of daily hours that are devoted to coaching/advisor duties or the team’s level of success. If team enrollment is not met, the district may make staffing reductions that reflect program level offerings within the first two weeks of the program. Any service provided during this two week timeframe will be paid on a weekly pro-rated basis.  In addition, if the selected candidate is unable to fulfill coaching/advising duties for five or more days, the stipend paid will be pro-rated.
