Position Overview:

Simley High School is seeking a dedicated and skilled Technical Director for our theatre department. This position requires proficiency in set design, set build, sound production, and lighting. The Technical Director will be responsible for overseeing the technical aspects of our four annual productions: a musical, a middle school play, one-act plays, and a spring play. This is a part-time position with specific after-school hours, ideal for an individual passionate about theatre arts and education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set Design and Construction: Conceptualize and create designs for all productions. Supervise and participate in the building, painting, and assembly of sets.

  • Sound Production: Manage sound design and operation for all shows, including sound effects, microphones, and audio equipment setup.

  • Lighting: Design and implement lighting schemes, operate lighting boards, and ensure proper lighting for rehearsals and performances.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with directors, choreographers, and other production staff to ensure cohesive and high-quality productions.

  • Mentorship: Provide guidance and instruction to students involved in technical theatre, fostering a learning environment.

  • Maintenance: Maintain and organize the theatre’s technical equipment, tools, and materials.

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in set design, set building, sound production, and lighting.

  • Experience working in a high school theatre environment is preferred.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with students and staff.

  • Flexibility and problem-solving skills to handle the dynamic nature of theatre productions.

Time Commitment: Monday through Thursday, 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM

Compensation: Stipend based on experience, approximately $7000-$8000 for the entire year (around 26 weeks)
