Description: Harbor City International School (harborcityschool.org) is a small, public charter school serving grades 9-12 in Duluth, MN. The purpose of this position is to engage students in social studies learning to meet and exceed state standards in an inclusive, small setting focused on academic challenge and community engagement. 

Start date: October 23, 2024

Responsibilities include:

  • Content development and delivery for social studies courses which may include: US History, US Government, World History, European History, Psychology, Sociology, Advanced Placement, College in the Schools, or similar courses.

  • Create a safe and inclusive environment for all students to engage in classroom and school activities

  • Provide effective assessment and feedback to promote strong skills, knowledge, understandings, and application of the social studies

  • Provide timely feedback to students and families

  • Make decisions informed by a variety of assessment tools and data for instruction

  • Differentiate learning experiences for all students and work with special education staff to provide student accommodations

  • Communicate with students, families, and colleagues effectively

  • Oversee an advisory period

  • Teach 3 Symposium classes- short, special interest classes in January, May, and June

  • Additional opportunities: club advisement, student travel, school leadership and development committees

Education Requirements

  • BA in Social Studies Education, History, or relevant field

  • Valid MN teaching license in Social Studies
