Health Room Aide Substitute

About the School: Lakes International Language Academy (LILA) is an award-winning Spanish and Mandarin Chinese language immersion public charter school with two campuses in Forest Lake, Minnesota. LILA offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) at our Main Campus, and IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and IB Diploma Programme (DP) at our Headwaters Campus. Convenient to both Minneapolis and Saint Paul, LILA’s campuses are located at the North Metro 35W-35E split.

Rate: $17/hr

Job Summary:  The Health Room Aide will provide health services to students at LILA’s Lower and Upper Campus in order to promote optimal levels of health and well-being.  The Aide will prioritize and provide care as needed when students arrive in the health office throughout the day. Duties will include, but not limited to: administration and documentation of medications and/or treatments, providing diabetic support, collecting and maintaining health information records while maintaining data privacy and confidentiality.  The Health Room Aide will be under the direct supervision of the School Nurse.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform first aid, emergency care, diabetic support, and other illness interventions

  • Administer medication to students as per physician’s orders and parent authorization

  • Maintain current student and staff emergency information and health records

  • Record health incident reports at site including accident reports and communicate to the School Nurse

  • Prepare and process health documents including physical examination forms and maintain records in an orderly manner

  • Report all cases of diagnosed or suspected communicable disease to the necessary agencies

  • Maintain an inventory of health room supplies and equipment

  • Perform general office duties such as typing, sorting, filing, maintaining files and records, duplicating materials, scheduling and processing various forms and reports

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the school district

  • Follow the direction of the licensed school nurse

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of State and Federal laws and regulatory issues governing public health, including rules and regulations of the Minnesota Department of Health and other governing agencies

  • Knowledge of public health and safety protocols and regional healthcare issues

  • Knowledge of nutrition and health maintenance issues for students

  • Knowledge to interpret medical information and provide school staff with an understanding of student health needs in the school environment and during other school activities

  • Knowledge of child and adolescent development (physical, cognitive, behavioral, and emotional) and ability to use this information to provide staff with insight to support student health needs

  • Ability to work well with students, parents, staff, administration and other adults and participate positively as a team member

  • General office experience including typing, data entry, filing, bookkeeping and knowledge of office programs and equipment

  • Ability to use medical equipment

  • Willingness and ability to accept and follow directions

  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision

  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills

  • Emotional maturity and stability necessary for the specialized work involved

Required Qualifications:

  • Current First Aid certification

  • English language proficiency, both spoken and written

    Physical Requirements: 

    This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; moving student desks or tables; work regularly requires standing and speaking or hearing, frequently requires walking and stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and occasionally requires sitting, using hands to finger, handle or feel, climbing or balancing, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic). 

     

Preferences:

  • 1-2 years of experience working in a school setting

  • Spanish and/or Mandarin Chinese language proficiency preferred, but not a must

  • Experience in a healthcare setting

  • Certified Nursing Assistant/ Trained Medication Assistant/ LPN
