Eastern Carver County Schools’ Building and Grounds Department is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment for all students, staff and visitors. Our team provides daily support to maintain building systems and structures, service the grounds, provide custodial services, oversee construction and renovation projects, maintain compliance with building and fire codes, safety and environmental regulations, oversee security and fire alarm systems in all buildings.

Position Start Date:  ASAP
Days/Hours: Year-Round; 8.0 paid hrs/day; 6:15am – 2:15pm
Salary:  $29.27/hr.
Responsible To: Director of Buildings & Grounds, Building Principal

$1000 Hiring Bonus: $500 after probationary period (120 days); $500 after one year
$200 Referral Bonus

Position Purpose:  The Head Engineer manages the work of others, provides service to all user groups and bears primary responsibility for both internal and external building and equipment maintenance.  This building will have new technologies to be managed, operated and maintained by this position.  Some of those new technologies include a chilled water air-conditioning system, a standby electrical generation system that will power part of facility in the event of a power failure, a computerized environmental control system and lighting system.

• Able to operate equipment associated with custodial operations
• Demonstrated personal dependability / regular attendance

• Ability to train, supervise and develop personnel
• Ability to work positively with other building employees and Groups
• Ability to develop and maintain record keeping systems
• Ability to set schedules and meet deadlines prioritizing as necessary
• Knowledge of standard tools, materials, methods and practices involved in building maintenance
• Computer skills and experience with BAS
• Demonstrated knowledge of established procedures for OSHA, Fire Marshal, and building maintenance
• Able to follow oral and written directions
• Able to read and understand Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
• Ability to develop and maintain record keeping systems
• Communicates with students, parents, co-workers, supervisors, and the community in a positive and responsive way that is consistently welcoming and enhances effective work relationships
• Demonstrates an appreciation of diversity in all interactions and job functions
• Lifting/Carrying – Up to 10 lbs. Consistently – Up to 40 lbs. Frequently – Up to 75-100+ lbs. Occasionally
• Evidence of an understanding of the school culture and environment, and a commitment to carrying out the vision, mission, and belief statements of Eastern Carver County Schools  

Education/Certification Requirements:
• High school education or its GED equivalent.
• State of Minnesota Boilers License (class dependent on size of equipment in building) – within two years of placement o Based on Shift Engineer listing at https://www.dli.mn.gov/sites/default/files/pdf/boiler_license_classifications.pdf
• MN Registered Unlicensed Electrician – within one year of placement
• MASMS Boot Camp – within one year of placement
• Pool Operator License if assigned building has a pool – Within one year of placement
• OSHA Standard, Right To Know, Blood Borne Pathogens (provided upon hire)
• Certified Building Operator Certificate preferred
• State of Minnesota Boilers License Chief “C” preferred

Compensation and Yearly Duration of Employment:  This position is posted as a full-time (40 hrs/week), twelve (12) month position. In addition, the pay includes an additional $0.10/hr for each level of boilers license when licenses are obtained.  Eligibile for benefits as negotiated with Union Local 70 and District 112 plus enrollment in Minnesota’s largest retirement pension! This position is eligible for overtime and comp time.
