HEAD CUSTODIAN-Secondary   
 
Reports to:                        Director of Buildings and Grounds

Job Summary: The Head Custodian oversees and performs the general maintenance, operation, and cleaning of the building, heating, plumbing, and electrical systems (etc.) to provide safe and comfortable surroundings for staff and students.
    Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    1. Monitors and maintains heating, air conditioning, plumbing, electrical equipment and supporting equipment to ensure efficient and proper operation. Reports all problems to the Director of Buildings and Grounds. Maintains a current boiler license.
    2. Schedules and/or performs weekend building and equipment checks.
    3. Decides what custodial supplies are needed and orders supplies for the building through the Director of Buildings and Grounds for approval.
    4. Makes recommendations on budget needed for effective building operation or equipment replacement.
    5. Assist Director of Buildings and Grounds in monitoring work of outside contractors or suppliers to ensure work performed meets job specifications.
    6. Maintains a current Pool Operator license, inspects and adjusts chlorine and pH level of water in pool. Checks circulating pumps, water temperature and quality daily.
    7. Supervise and coordinate the work of custodians and cleaners.
    8. Performs building cleaning and maintenance work.
    9. Assist with hot lunch program.
    10. Repairs of furniture, equipment, carpentry, painting, lights, and all other equipment
    11. Coordinate and assist in setting up and removal for all activities.
    12. Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum HS diploma required
  • Effective interpersonal skills to communicate with school personnel, students, parents and members of the community.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Boilers license preferred.
  • Efficient time management.
  • Supervisory experience.

 
Physical Job Requirements:

  • Employee is continuously required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel, talk, and hear; frequently sits, stoops, kneels and/or crouches, reach with hands and arms in the performance of the job. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally; and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
