Description
The MS Track and Field Coach is responsible for supporting Nova Classical’s students with dedication, enthusiasm, adaptability, kindness, passion, and energy. Much of the work of a Activity, Club, and/or Program Lead consists of student supervision and behavior management in large group settings, as well as providing instruction on the proper methods, rules, and regulations of extracurricular activities. The Activity, Club, and/or Program Lead is employed at-will and operates as a professional within the guidelines established by Nova Classical Academy. In cooperation with Nova Classical staff and volunteers, the Activity, Club, and/or Program Lead works to fulfill the school’s mission in the following areas of responsibility:Â

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Comply with the rules and regulations of the school and the Minnesota State High School League and/or Minnesota Bar Association, and/or other relevant association
- Prepare reports, inventory, and equipment/supply recommendations
- Communicate to program participants all policies of the program and the Activities Department, as described in the Activities Department Handbook
- Submit required forms to the Activities Department, the School Board, and the Minnesota State High School League
- Plan, organize, and implement the teaching fundamentals, strategies, rules, and proper conditioning in the assigned activity, club, and/or program
- Organize and schedule events, meetings, performances, or other items as determined by Activities Director
- Instruct participants in safety procedures and ensure immediate reporting to Activities Director
- Create and maintain accurate individual and activity, club, and/or program performance records, as required
- Provide and adhere to an atmosphere conducive to good sportsmanship
- Participate in awards program(s) according to school procedure
- Ensure adequate supervision for all students involved in the program
- Manage assistant staff, as needed
- Ensure that all students conform to established policies and safety procedures
- Record and communicate concerns related to student comportment, safety issues, or other security-related concerns
- Attend and participate in mandatory meetings and trainings
- Handle emergency situations including following emergency procedures, administering first aid, CPR and/or use of AED as needed
- Communicate effectively with all staff, students, and parents
- Adherence to Nova Classical policies and procedures
- Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- In-depth knowledge and experience in the content area of the activity, club, and/or program (e.g. arts and crafts, drama/theatre, active/passive games, active/passive sports, etc…
- Current/previous experience working with school-aged students
- Ability to maintain confidentiality with regard to student and other information as required by FERPA
- Committed to professional and technical development through attendance at development activities, scheduled meetings, and relevant training

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Current or previous experience as an activity, club, and/or program lead for assigned content area
- Current or previous experience as an activity, club, and/or program assistant for assigned content area
- Current Adult/Pediatric First Aid with CPR/AED certification First Aid/CPR/AED certification(s) and/or willingness to obtain
- Current or previous experience working in a classical education environment

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Duties are generally performed in a classroom, gymnasium and/or athletic field setting, where some environmental hazards and/or risks may be present
- Regular eye-hand, mind-eye coordination
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position and/or walk for periods of one hour or more
- Frequent lifting up to 25 pounds and occasional lifting up to 40 pounds
- Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects in the performance of the job
- Must be able to exchange accurate information with students, teachers, parents, and staff
- Regular operation of computer or other office machines
- Regular stooping, squatting, kneeling, reaching, bending, walking, or a combination of these
- Occasional or frequent standing for periods of four (4) hours or more
- Seasonal work outdoors in all weather conditions

JOB SUMMARY
The primary role of an MS Track and Field Coach is to coordinate, organize, and promote a comprehensive program designed to meet the needs and interests of the school. This role is expected to provide effective leadership that will enhance the learning environment for students by providing effective, personalized attention; engaging in appropriate instructional and behavioral support; and, modeling intellectual and principled living by demonstrating character and intellectual virtues in accordance with Nova Classical Academy’s classical education tradition. Nova designs activities programming to offer our students the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities that complement and integrate with the school’s mission.
