Essential Functions:
- Under the direction of the Assistant Manager of Facilities, maintains and improves campus grounds to the level of attention determined by the Rochester Public Schools.
- Must have an understanding of trucking and grounds operations, vehicles, and be able to operate vehicles effectively and safely.
- Will be on-call during winter months and must show up when called in.
- Working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Assists utility techs and custodial staff as directed by the Assistant Manager of Facilities when departments are shorthanded.
- Maintains turf and lawn areas, mows, trims and edges using riding mower, push mower, weed whip, edge and blower. Reports issues to the Supervisor.
- Performs the installation of mulch, plants, shrubs, trees, sod and seed.
- Applies pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers to limited areas as directed.
- Cleans, weed whips and provides proper upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, surface parking lots, and storm sewers. Reports any issues to the Grounds Lead.
- Trimming with gas powered weed whips around school buildings, parking lots, sidewalks, signs, light poles, trees and fences.
- Picks up trash, branches and debris on District campuses, parking lots at Skyline and the Facilities Services Center.
- Maintains black top surfaces by filling pots holes as needed, reports severe issues to the Grounds Lead.
- Make scheduled and unscheduled deliveries of supplies/equipment under the direction of the Assistant Manager of Facilities,
- Keeps Athletic Tracks and Tennis courts free of debris and weeds. Reports surface issues to Supervisor.
- District wide campus snow removal from parking lots, sidewalks, playgrounds and around buildings.
- Applies ice melt or liquid brine on parking lots, playgrounds and sidewalks as needed to insure a safe environment.
- Cleans and maintains all tools, equipment, vehicles, trailers and work area to District standards.
- No allergies to chemicals.
- Pass physical examination, if required.
- Moves up to 50 pounds of project materials and/or tools to remote building locations.
- Performs a variety of cleaning and semi-skilled duties which includes but is not limited to: vacuuming, mopping, washing tables, windows, bathrooms, dusting, waxing, stripping floors, moving heavy furniture, etc.
- Stands on ladders, and platforms lifts at heights up to 30 feet for extended periods of time.
- Performs essential maintenance to the facility or equipment which may involve, but not limited to the following activities: reaching, crouching; kneeling; shoveling; working in narrow and/or confining spaces: underground, overhead, and at ground level; twisting of the waist, shoulders, and legs; and lying on stomach and/or back.
- Job duties and assignments are subject to change based on the needs of the School District.
License Requirement:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Operators must be insurable at all times as determined by the District’s Insurance Company.
- CDL classification required at time of hire.
- Must meet the DOT physical qualifications and possess a valid medical card.
Required Skills:
- Flexibility with schedule during the winter months is extremely important.
- Reliable punctual attendance is a must especially during the winter months.
- On-call snow removal overtime is required.
- Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
- Exceptional communication & customer service skills.
- Work independently on a daily delivery route
- Ability to work effectively with others and utilize effective team-building skills
- Experience with snow removal equipment.
- Experience with turf maintenance equipment.
- Basic understanding of the upkeep, care and safe operation of motorized equipment used for turf maintenance and snow removal.
- Able and willing to work overtime as needed in all types of weather.
- Willingness to learn and share new and better methods with supervisors.

- Maintain a professional presence while on company time.
- Support district goals and continuous improvement initiatives by attending and participating in meetings and assigned training.
- Complies and adheres to all School District, City, State and OSHA policies.
