Description
The General Education Assistant is responsible for supporting Nova Classical’s students and teachers with dedication, enthusiasm, adaptability, kindness, passion, and energy. Much of the work of a General Education Assistant consists of student supervision and behavior management in large group and classroom settings, as well as providing Nova Classical teachers and staff with assistance with clerical and other tasks as assigned. The General Education Assistant is employed at-will and operates as a professional within the guidelines established by Nova Classical Academy. In cooperation with Nova Classical staff and volunteers, the General Education Assistant works to fulfill the school’s mission in the following areas of responsibility:Â

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
- Deliver high-quality, effective academic and behavioral assistance and support to students, as directed by Nova Classical teaching staff
- Provide instructional support and prepare teaching materials in an accurate and timely manner, under the supervision of Nova Classical teaching staff
- Effectively apply behavioral and classroom management techniques
- Foster a love of learning and passion for knowledge
- Encourage and engage students in their individual education path
- Supervision of students in one-on-one, small group, classroom, and/or large group settings large group settings including, but not limited to arrival, lunch, recess, and dismissal
- Manage data and other information pertaining to student work and assessments
- Adherence to Nova Classical policies, procedures, and the principles of classical education
- Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- High School diploma or equivalent education
- First Aid/CPR/AED certification(s) and/or willingness to obtain
- Aptitude for work with students at various grade and development levels
- Ability to maintain confidentiality with regard to student and other information as required by FERPA
- Committed to professional and technical development through attendance at development activities, scheduled meetings, and relevant and/or required training

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Associate’s or other degree; two years of study at a higher education institution (at least 60 semester credits); Voluntary Paraprofessional Credential in accordance with Minnesota Rule 8710.9000; or, a passing score of 460 or higher on the ParaPro Exam
- Current or previous experience working in a classical education environment
- Experience as an Education Assistant, Paraprofessional, or Para Educator
- Familiarity with K-12 students in one-on-one, small group, and/or classroom setting

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Duties are generally performed in a classroom and/or resource room setting, indoors and/or outdoors, where some environmental hazards and/or risks may be present
- Frequent lifting up to 25 pounds and occasional lifting up to 40 pounds
- Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects in the performance of the job
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position and/or walk for periods of one hour or more
- Exposure to various disagreeable conditions which may involve, but are not limited to, human/student contact, verbal outbursts, physical aggression, exposure to bodily fluids
- Occasional or frequent standing for periods of 4 hours or more
- Occasional/regular work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Must be able to exchange accurate information to students, teachers, parents, and staff
- Regular operation of computer or other office machines

JOB SUMMARY
The primary role of the General Education Assistant is to enhance the learning environment for students by providing effective, personalized attention; engaging in appropriate instructional and behavioral support; and, modeling intellectual and principled living by demonstrating character and intellectual virtues in accordance with Nova Classical Academy’s classical education tradition.
