Location: District Wide- Based out of the Cherry School, Iron, MN 
Hours: Year Round Employment, Monday – Friday, 30-40 hrs/wk
Bargaining Unit: Operating Engineers, Local No. 70
       

Position Details:
Join our district-wide team as a Custodian/Bus Driver with a home base at the Cherry School! In this flexible role, your daily duties will vary based on district needs, balancing custodial tasks with student transportation across our 5 schools. This position will help maintain safe, clean environments and provide dependable bus services on designated routes, supporting the entire district. Duties will be assigned at the discretion of the Transportation Director and the Director of Facilities and Grounds.

The following are the essential skills, education and abilities required for the position: 
 

Key Responsibilities:

Custodial Duties:  

  • Perform routine cleaning and maintence of school premises, ensuring a safe and sanitary environment.
  • Operate small equipment, including lawn mowers, genie lifts, small tractors, and power tools for facility upkeep.
  • Maitain outdoor areas as needed and manage waste collection and disposal.

Bus Driving Duties:

  • Safely transport students along designated routes, maintaining punctuality according to school schedules.
  • Conduct pre-trip inspections, ensuring the vehicle’s mechanical conditions and safety features meet requirements.
  • Keep the bus interior and exterior clean and manage effective student behavior while driving.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • MN driver’s license (Bus driver’s endorsement provided with training if not certified)
  • 1 year experience in general maintenance and/or custodial/cleaning services preferred. 
  • Must complete pre-employment requirements such as a background check, DOT physical, and a drug/alcohol screen.
