Description
Hiawatha Valley Education District is looking for a Facilities Manager to manage the maintenance of all Hiawatha Valley Education District buildings. The Facilities Manager will oversee all aspects of facility maintenance, school safety, and cleanliness.
This position will report directly to the Executive Director and works closely with HVED's Business Manager, Cabinet, Building and Grounds Committee, and Board of Directors as required. This position requires a flexible schedule and works 260 days per year.
Duties (including, but not limited to):
- Hands-on knowledge and experience in the safe operations of a variety of tools, machinery, and power equipment used in performing essential functions.
- Ensure compliance with government health and safety standards; keep records of all permits, licenses, and citations.
- Manage and coordinate, in conjunction with general contractors, architects, construction agencies, and other vendors, the renovation and relocation of HVED programs to one central site.
- Work with the Executive Director, Business Manager, and Building and Grounds Committee in the management of construction, renovation, and maintenance operations and projects.
- Coordinate the move/relocation with IT and other related parties, as required.
- Comply with all HVED policies, procedures, and quality standards as well as safety and environmental regulations.
- Serve as point of contact for building tenants to maintain effective relationships and ensure their facility needs are addressed.
- Ensure facilities are in good repair and provide a safe environment.
- Maintain facilities and janitorial services; including, but not limited to, snow removal, landscaping, custodial duties, plumbing, painting, carpentry, electrical, fencing, playground and green space, and parking lots.
- Supervise custodial employees and student volunteers/work experience candidates.
- Maintain effective safety programs; complete all safety checks on equipment systems.
- Coordinate and schedule all maintenance, cleaning requests, and work orders.
- Oversee all third-party vendors, i.e. landscaping, pest control, and alarm system.
- Solicit, review, and negotiate bids for repairs and projects.
- Inspection and maintenance of the building’s boiler system.
- Manage the fire, safety, and security systems
- Maintain the supply of all facility cleaning and operating supplies and materials.
- Maintain inventory of furniture and equipment and ensure proper maintenance, repair, and disposal.
- Maintain owner’s manuals/information, asset lists, schedules, and maintenance records.
- Clean, service, and maintain district vehicles and ensure they are in safe operating condition for the transportation of students, staff, materials, and equipment.
- Administer driver’s test for all HVED drivers annually; ensuring driving records meet the required standards.
- Transport and delivery of HVED materials, furniture and equipment as needed.
- Perform all other duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Minnesota Boiler License required.
- Experience in the construction installation, operation, and maintenance of boilers.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in successful facilities management experience
- Knowledge of building codes, construction, and architecture terminology.
- Knowledge and experience with alarm and security systems.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, efficiently complete all activities.
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written, including the ability to interact/communicate with all types of members of the community including teachers, administrators, board members, parents, students, and tenants.
- Self-starter, ability to set and meet goals, and problem solve.
- Systems thinker for improvement of facilities, inventory, and equipment.
- Maintain the ability to satisfy all physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling up to 50 pounds; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; reaching above shoulder level; fine finger dexterity.
- Ability to work flexible hours to avoid student/classroom disruption as much as possible.
- Valid driver's license
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, SharePoint, and Google preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- College or trade school degree preferred.
- Must be at least 18 years of age
Working Conditions:
- This position will work in a variety of indoor and outdoor environment conditions.
- Travel between HVED programs and member districts required.
Physical Requirements:
- The ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Prolonged periods standing and walking.
- Must be physically able to push, pull, climb ladders, bend, or crawl into awkward spaces.
Salary and Benefits:
$55,000 – $75,000 plus a competitive benefits package. Compensation depedent on experience, education, certifications, and licensure.
