Position Summary:
The Explorers Program Manager for Staff Development is responsible for the successful onboarding and training of staff working in our high-quality district-wide childcare program for children in grades K-5, including before- and after-school care, non-school day care, and summer program. This position supports staff at six sites and a staff of approximately 100 and is responsible for ensuring they are prepared to implement safe and effective operations of our program. 

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate staff. 
  2. Monitor required professional development and provide staff with professional development opportunities; develop several training sessions throughout the year; and ensure that all in-service training aligns with District goals.
  3. Provide training during monthly site supervisor meetings, monthly site staff meetings and conduct regular meetings with all staff providing program leadership.
  4. Ensure program staff are developing and implementing developmentally appropriate before and after school programming.
  5. Maintain accountability in all aspects of the program complying with standards and guidelines of Department of Human Services certification, the school district, and State of Minnesota.  Develop, implement and disseminate program guidelines with staff.
  6. Support the design and maintenance of a safe, positive environment which meets the physical, intellectual, emotional and social needs of the children in an inclusive setting.
  7. Provide guidance and support at school age care sites each afternoon during our school year programming.
  8. Assist the Assistant Director and Explorers Program Manager with required reporting on the program as necessary.
  9. Participate in annual Community Ed activities, including family Explorers events and MCE events including Youth Triathlon, Tour de Tonka, and Fall de Tonka.
  10. Maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.
  11. Perform other duties of a similar nature or level. 

Qualifications:

  1. B.A. or B.S. in education, youth development, or a related degree.
  2. Proven competencies in staff management and supervision including staff evaluation and training. Evidence of successful experience in program planning and program leadership. Knowledge of best practices in the school age childcare field.
  3. Certificate in First Aid and CPR.  This training can be completed after hired for the role.
  4. Evidence of excellent communication and organizational skills.
  5. Evidence of the ability to work with a minimum of supervision, to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
  6. Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
  7. Demonstrated ability to uphold policy. Experience in the creation of processes and protocol for large organizations to ensure compliance with policy. 
  8. Strong interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information, receive work direction and facilitate conflicts.

Salary and Benefits:
Minimum starting salary $50,000 with actual placement dependent upon experience and qualifications.
