Job Summary:
WEST ABE is a consortium of educational sites within school districts and three county jails to help adults acquire basic skills. Monticello is the fiscal agent. This position involves providing direct instruction to adults in the English as a second language program in Mound, MN (Westonka). Up to 40 Professional development hours are available annually. (The night that the class is held may be able to change.) Classes are held in the WeCAN building.
Responsibilities will include providing direct instruction to adult students who are working to improve their basic skills in reading, writing, and speaking English. Position also includes student assessment, monitoring student attendance, completing necessary student record keeping and other duties as assigned. Applicants must be computer literate, preferably in Google.
Minimum qualifications: Valid MN teaching license or ESL degree or similar, degree in linguistics or any other high-level English/Reading degree.
Certification and Experience:
- Current MN Teaching License required
- Previous experience working with Community Education/adults preferred
Essential Skills Required:
- Computer skills required, knowledge of MS Office/Google or comparable
- Strong leadership and time management skills required
- Effective decision making skills while acting within the district policies, procedures and guidelines
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and staff
- Maintain confidentiality of information about students, families and staff
- Experience working with diverse students and families
