Qualifications/Experience:
A current Minnesota teaching license in English as a Second Language (K-12), Annual WIDA certification.
Successful background check required.
Strength in working with data to increase students’ achievement through the use of research based instructional strategies preferred.
Demonstrated success in an itinerant position preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Needed:
Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching, co-teaching, pull-out/push-in programs, SIOP, etc. Experience in languages other than English. Comprehensive knowledge of curriculum development. Excellent skills in developing and presenting ideas effectively in verbal and written form. Excellent skills in establishing and maintaining positive and effective working relationships with all staff and parents. Strong skills and some experience in assessments and data analysis to improve educational environments.Â

Specific Tasks:
The EL teacher will work closely with teachers and administration to analyze student data, identify instructional needs and identify research-based instructional strategies to close achievement gaps. Determine eligibility for EL services by examining Home Language Questionnaires, cumulative files and WIDA scores per MDE guidelines. Provide annual notifications to families regarding eligibility and services provided to the students. Identify and model academic language related to content and provide meaningful opportunities for student language production. Support ELs in their content areas through collaboration with content area teachers 6-12. Guide students’ personal and social development by establishing rules/procedures and by exposing students to cultural nuances. Build and maintain successful relationships with students, parents, and staff. Maintain ongoing communication with parents through progress reports and addressing questions/concerns. Administer annual WIDA ACCESS and disseminate results to stakeholders. Facilitate cultural understanding between ELs and the community.
