Job Title:  English Language Learner Teacher – 2024-2025 School Year

Job Location:  Sejong Academy Charter School.  2410 Stillwater Road E.  Maplewood, MN  55119

Sejong Academy is looking for an English as Second Language education teacher to support K-12 students. Candidates should have strong organizational, communication, and decision-making skills; and the ability to identify learning challenges, analyze, process and make judgments with the sensitivity that is necessary to lead and coordinate programs for students.  Teachers must understand and have the skills to apply these strategies and concepts in the creation of a developmentally appropriate student-learning environment.   

 

Essential Functions: Essential functions as defined by Sejong Academy leadership may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills.  This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and duties performed by incumbents of this position.  Employees are required to be in attendance and prepared to begin work at the school on the specified days and hours.  Factors such as regular attendance at the job are not routinely listed in job descriptions, but are an essential function.  Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide direct English language services for students who qualify for EL services 

  • Provide consultation and support to classroom teachers regarding students EL services. 

  • Provide work direction and support to the classroom teachers. 

  • Perform educational assessments of students as required.   

  • Develop, write and implement learning goals for EL students.  

  • Ensure that due process requirements are being followed. 

  • Promote cooperation, assertion, responsibility, empathy and self-control among students, as well as conflict resolution strategies.  Establish developmentally-appropriate behavioral expectations for students.

  • Collaborate and communicate regularly with families in making educational decisions.  Promote family involvement to support student learning and support and attend the three EL Family Nights.

  • Attend Staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

  • Provide building level leadership on EL strategies

  • Attend Chuseok and Lunar New Year Festivals.

  • Provide building support that may include serving lunch, helping with bussing and subbing in limited amounts. 

  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Valid MN teaching license in K-12 EL; will consider other license areas or a variance for qualified candidates.

  • Must be able to work together with the team to support the mission of Sejong Academy

  • Must have a growth mindset, open to learning and self-reflection

  • Skills required to perform multiple, technical tasks with sufficient organization

  • Flexibility to independently complete tasks and work with others in a wide variety of circumstances

  • Ability to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job, including: communicating with diverse groups, maintaining confidentiality, multitasking, meeting deadlines and schedules, working with frequent interruptions, setting priorities, working as part of a team, and making independent decisions
