Job description: Elementary Special Education Teacher
STEP Academy is a K-12 destination charter school located in Burnsville, Minnesota that serves a student body primarily made up of first-generation Somali/East African students. STEP Academy ensures all students are nurtured and empowered to use their personal attributes and acquired knowledge to have the choice to participate in early college entrance through the Minnesota PSEO program. The Position:
STEP Academy is hiring an Elementary special education teacher to teach students with a variety of needs. The teacher will have a small caseload of students and be responsible for teaching, progress reporting, completing annual IEPs, and helping with new evaluations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Any special education teaching license
Any teaching license and special education experience
Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds
Experience working with ELL populations
Cultural competence
Somali speaker is a plus
Minimum Qualifications:
Any teaching license and willingness to obtain an out of area designation
Bachelor’s degree at any subject with ability to obtain a Tier 1 or 2 teaching license, and willingness to work toward a higher tier teaching license
An understanding of or experience working with special education students
Familiarity with student data, due process, special education practices and willingness to learn on the job through support and mentoring
Cultural competence
