Description
International Spanish Language Academy (ISLA) in Edina, MN (an International Baccalaureate elementary school) seeks a Special Education Teacher to teach academic, social, and life skills to elementary school students with learning, emotional, or physical disabilities.
The specific duties and responsibilities include:
- Â Educate, plan, teach, facilitate and evaluate students identified with special education needs according to local, state and federal regulations and guidelines;
- Teach a small group of students and individuals inside and outside of the classroom;
- Prepare and execute lessons and resources, and review proposed plans of other teachers;
- Assess the students’ work done in class and update parents on their students’ progress;
- Build strong relationships with students in order to push them to be their best selves both academically and personally;
- Collaborate with colleagues in order to meet the needs of every student by ensuring accommodations are met and develop intervention plans;
- Take part in regular data meetings and participate in webinars of professional development over the course of the school year;
- Be a critical member of an instructional team, teaching daily support classes in math, and/or literacy, both with specialized instruction and with a research based program;
- Oversee the drafting, implementation, and maintenance of IEPs, co-lead child study team meetings, and coordinate standardized test accommodations, special education screenings, and related services;
- Be part of the Assessment Task Force Team of the school and work on planning improvements in Math and Literacy. and
- Be a critical member of an instructional team, teaching daily support classes in math, literacy, and/or self-regulation both with specialized instruction and with a research-based program.
We require a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education, or the foreign equivalent degree, a valid Minnesota Teaching License (in Special Education, Academic and Behavioral Strategist (ABS)), and Spanish and English language proficiency.  We also require two years of: working directly with students in a classroom and creating behavior intervention strategies in a general education setting; developing curriculum, assessments, and accommodation design for at- risk students; facilitating student-specific learning plans; serving as a Teacher Leader coordinating teams of educators; and utilizing education in the Responsive Classroom approach and the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP).

- Good organizational skills and flexibility in relating to students, parents, peers, and supervisors
- Enthusiasm to work well in a team environment through cooperation and participation
- Ability to appropriately teach children with different ability levels and learning styles
- Ability to understand that students are individuals, and the skill to work effectively with individual strengths and needs of students
- Knowledge and ability to creatively instill the love of learning in students
- Ability to incorporate international cultures into lesson plans throughout the year
- Effective classroom management
- Enthusiasm for high level of parent involvement
