Minnesota Excellence in Learning Academy is hiring a paraprofessional for the 2024-2025 school year.

Description

The paraprofessional supports special education students as well as school personnel in classrooms, educational programs, buses, lunchrooms, and other areas as needed.  The special education paraprofessional works under close supervision of a special education teacher, classroom teacher, or program leader. 
 

Job Responsibilities:
Provide academic support to students in any and all subjects as employed by the classroom and special education teacher.

  1. Assist in organizing, preparing and maintaining instructional materials such as books, papers and manipulatives.
  2. Participate in specialist program activities with students (ie. physical education, technology, language, and art.)
  3. Assist and monitor student behavior and academic needs in the classroom and out of the classroom as required by the student’s IEP and in support of the child's classroom experience.
  4. Maintain active support of assigned student(s) during the regular instructional day as indicated in the IEP(s) and scheduled by teachers and admin.
  5. Maintain effective and cooperative relationships with students, parents (under the direction of the teacher), teachers, and school staff. Communicate accurately and constructively while preserving confidentiality.
  6. Possess knowledge of the program, functions, and procedures of the school, the school’s organization, and knowledge of the community served by the school.
  7. Maintain records according to school policy and procedures.
  8. Participate in all professional development programs as requested.
  9. Maintain professional work habits, attire, and conduct including: on-time daily attendance with absences reported promptly, work the full schedule, follow schedule diligently, meet deadlines, follow staff handbook, and adhere to school procedures and expectations.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Meets the Highly Qualified certification requirements (ie. passing score on the ParaPro Exam or 2 year degree/2 year of post-secondary education) is required

  • Must have academic ability to tutor students in reading, writing, science, and mathematics up to the sixth grade level

  • Must have solid computer skills, be able to navigate basic internet use, and ability to use software programs

  • Must follow-through on directions, rules, policies, and procedures

  • Must develop good relationships with students, parents, and staff

  • Must be sensitive to the needs of others

  • Must relate to students with warmth, friendliness, and understanding

  • Must remain calm in emergency and stressful situations
