Description:  To direct and coordinate the efforts of school staff, community professionals, parents, and the community in the successful implementation of the Elementary Counseling Program.
 
Job Summary: 
1.      Connect with all students in the building at one of the three tiers of this program to serve as a positive and caring adult role model in the building.
2.      Collaborate with teachers on developmentally appropriate classroom lessons from research-based curriculum, such as Second Step and Character Counts. Develop an implementation timeline for presenting curriculum.
3.      Facilitate meetings with parents and staff about relevant counseling information, programs and services.
4.      Actively participate in grade level and specialist staff meetings in assigned building.
5.      Develop collegial relationships with licensed and support staff to establish a school-wide character education program.
6.      Facilitate small group and one-on-one sessions to help students at Tier 2 to develop appropriate skills in self-control, anger management, social skills, academic skills, peer mediation, conflict resolution, and other topics as appropriate.
7.      Work with teachers and other building staff to identify appropriate interventions for identified students at the Tier 2 and Tier 3 levels.
8.      Collect, analyze, and report information required under the provisions of the grant.
9.      Partner with support services staff and/or other providers to ensure students receive appropriate services or referrals.
 
Qualifications:
1.      MA/MS degree in counseling or related field.
2.      Current Minnesota teaching license in counseling, school social work, or school psychologist
3.      Knowledge of mental health practices and diversity training.
4.      Understand effective counseling programs and strategies.
5.      Strong human relation and organizational skills.
6.      Ability to build positive, productive relationships with diverse individuals, including students, parents, staff, and representatives of community agencies or organizations.
