Effective immediately, the Human Resources Department will accept online applications for the position of English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher at our High School and Community Learning Center (ALC) beginning on February 1, 2025. This is a permanent position (based on successful completion of probationary and continuing contract expectations). We offer a competitive salary and benefits package. Salary placement is based on education and experience as indicated in the Teacher’s Collectively Bargained Agreement.

Job Summary

Support English Learners (ELs) in developing their English language proficiency across reading, writing, speaking, and listening while promoting academic achievement and social-emotional growth. Collaborate with classroom teachers to deliver high-quality instruction, provide differentiated support, and create inclusive learning environments that respect and celebrate students’ diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Implement district and state standards for English Learners, administer language proficiency assessments, and use data to guide instruction and monitor progress.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hold multiple teaching licenses to offer sheltered EL classes for core content credit.

  • Experience with successful implementation of a co-teaching model of instruction. 

  • Experience working in an Alternative Learning Center (ALC) setting.

  • Spanish-speaking.

 

Job Functions

  • Design and implement instructional activities aligned with the 2020 WIDA English Language Development Standards, supporting students’ development in the areas of language for academic success, social interaction, and self-expression.

  • Conduct intake assessments for new English Learner (EL) students, including administering and scoring the WIDA Screener to determine initial eligibility and placement in EL services.

  • Proctor the annual ACCESS for ELLs assessment, ensuring compliance with testing protocols and accurately reporting results to inform instruction and measure language proficiency growth.

  • Develop and deliver differentiated instruction that integrates language development with grade-level content, providing equitable, rigorous, and culturally responsive learning experiences.

  • Collaborate with content area teachers to plan and co-teach lessons that embed language scaffolding and strategies to support English Learners’ engagement and understanding across the WIDA Key Language Uses: Narrate, Inform, Explain, and Argue.

  • Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress, evaluate language proficiency growth, and inform instruction, including the integration of the WIDA Modes of Communication: interpretive, interpersonal, and expressive.

  • Build inclusive learning environments that promote multilingualism as an asset and affirm the cultural and linguistic identities of all students.

  • Maintain accurate and complete records of student progress, including assessment data, service plans, and compliance with federal and state guidelines for EL services.

  • Partner with families, guardians, and community members to support students’ language development and academic achievement.

  • Attend professional development opportunities to deepen understanding of WIDA standards and enhance skills for integrating language instruction into academic content.

  • Cultivate and sustain collaborative, equitable relationships with students, staff, and families that align with the district’s mission, vision, values, and strategic goals.

  • Demonstrate professionalism through regular, reliable attendance and adherence to district policies and procedures.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support English Learners.

  • Licensure: Appropriate Minnesota teaching licensure for subject area and level taught.

Physical Requirements

Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Vision abilities required include close vision.
