Educational Sign Language Interpreter
7 hrs./day, 10 month calendar

Primary Responsibility:
The primary responsibility of this role is to facilitate communication and provide access in the classroom setting. This includes conveying all educational content and intent, incidental information, and supporting social interactions. The interpreter should take into account the student’s IEP goals, language and culture needs of all persons, Deaf and hearing, as well as the environment in order to provide the most effective interpretations.
 
 
Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide students who are deaf and hard of hearing with sign language interpreting services in early childhood, elementary, and/or secondary settings within District 196.
  • Adapt physical conditions to optimize students’ visual access to interpreted message in the classroom setting. 
  • Adhere to the code of conduct for educational interpreters.
  • Ensure interpreting techniques are aligned with students’ language level and follow student’s individualized education plans as appropriate.
  • Help to maintain safety of all students and the learning environment.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

 
 
Qualifications required:

  • Demonstrated skill and certification in expressive and receptive sign language interpreting.  NAD/ACCI, EIPA, or RID certification (preferred) OR provisional certificate required.
  • Experience in an educational setting preferred.

Compensation / Benefits: 
Non-Licensed Specialist – Salary range  (Provisional)  $23.15 – $29.28/ hr. based on 2024-25 salary schedule:  DOQ
Non-Licensed Specialist – Salary range (Licensed)   $29.89 – $36.38/ hr. based on 2024-25 salary schedule:  DOQ
