JOB SUMMARY:  The ECMECC Network Operations Specialist will manage the Central MN WAN and Internet Services program, support the ECMECC Network and Security Administrator and provide direct service to ECMECC member districts.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coordination of the Central MN Wide Area Network

  • Monitoring network performance
  • Documenting network infrastructure
  • Troubleshooting network issues
  • Managing vendor and partner relationships
  • Managing network upgrade and expansion projects
  • Other duties as assigned

 Supporting ECMECC Network and Security Services

  • Assist with managing and monitoring backups
  • Manage cooperative security awareness training program
  • Assist with district vulnerability scans and risk assessments as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Supporting ECMECC Member Districts

  • Provide support to districts in the area of cyber risk mitigation
  • Assist districts with network infrastructure projects
  • Perform maintenance and updates to network devices including servers, wireless controllers, firewall, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned

Professional Development

  • Participate in and lead groups and/or activities related to ECMECC network and security services
  • Participate in groups and activities related to information technology
  • Read online and print resources related to information technology
  • Participate in relevant training opportunities to improve and acquire new skills

 

WORK REQUIREMENTS AND CHARACTERISTICS:

     Education/Certification: Associate degree in information technology or similar field. Will consider

         other relevant certifications and/or work experience.

     Experience:

  • Two or more years of experience in relevant network and/or technology support roles
  • Two or more years of experience working in or with schools or cooperatives preferred

 

Essential Skills Required to Perform the Work: Strong communication, project management, problem solving, and analytical skills. Ability to analyze, interpret and develop procedural guidelines. Solid technical background including an understanding of networking protocols and infrastructure; basic knowledge of network topologies; and proficient with network monitoring tools.

 

Physical Job Requirements:

Position involves: occasional exertion of up to 75 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking, hearing, reaching and repetitive motions, frequently requires standing, walking, sitting, pushing or pulling and occasionally requires stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, climbing (ladder) and lifting; work has standard vision and vocal requirements; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating computers, mobile devices and technology equipment, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities.

Working Conditions: Work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, data center, light traffic); work requires travel to member districts and occasional travel to other locations.

 

Job Outcomes: Effective working relationships with member district staff; effective management and optimization of the Central MN Wide Area Network; supporting and backing up ECMECC Network and Security Services
