Description

This position will primarily be responsible for supporting three job classes: ParaPro, Building Maintenance, and ServSafe. Duties will include setting up job shadowing opportunities, completing employment plans, and supporting students. Some Saturday morning hours required.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED certificate.
Experience working in a position that requires public contact.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings.
 

Preferred Qualifications
College coursework in liberal arts.
Experience working in a social service or educational setting.
Knowledge of community education, adult basic education, adult diploma programs and pre-occupational classes.
 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Excellent communication skills in the English language (speaking, reading, writing).
Ability to work effectively with adult learners representing a variety of ethnic, cultural and economic backgrounds.
Ability to interact effectively and work efficiently in an educational environment and as a member of a team.
Ability to gather data accurately and enter data on a computer.
Ability to create databases.
Ability to function in a multi-task environment and be detail oriented and self motivated.

Responsibilities
The essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties:
Assist adult learners with exploring occupational classes and training programs and advise on requirements for class schedules; provide input to administrators regarding students’ needs and interests.
Meet one-on-one with incoming learners to gather information and assist learners with completing forms; answer questions about adult education programs, at the Hubbs center facility and other sites where adult education programs are located; refer potential learners to other more appropriate programs when necessary.
Assist with the orientation of new learners by giving tours of the building, setting up the orientation room, collating intake packets and related duties.
Meet one-on-one with adult learners to gather information in order to determine the appropriate state and federally approved pre-test used for students’ placement into classes.
Monitor testing room; prepare classroom testing; score tests; assist licensed staff with scheduling tests and assessing test results; enter testing results into the state adult basic education database.
Mentor students one-on-one and assist students in attaining their educational goals by scheduling students into appropriate classes based on test scores; track student goals to ensure requirements are being met.
Update student information on computer as needed; withdraw students who no longer attend classes at the Hubbs Center.
Generate attendance reports for use by Hubbs administration and for other agencies as necessary.
Advise community organizations, employment counselors, daycare agencies and other organizations as appropriate about Hubbs programming and school schedules.
Attend monthly intake meetings, participate in one or more task groups, and attend all staff meetings; attend professional development workshops/classes as required.
Assist with covering the intake desk; answer questions; schedule appointments for adult learners and related activities as part of the support services area.
Contribute to the District’s Strong Schools, Strong Communities efforts by partnering with other staff to contribute to student achievement and the alignment and sustainability of resources.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Pay. Benefits and Work Schedule

This is a 10 month position working 40 hours per week.

Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Education Assistant negotiated labor agreement. The labor agreement and salary schedule can be found on the  Labor Agreements  page.
