Early Learning Hub is seeking an Educational Assistant (EA1 – Pre K Classroom Assist)

The essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties:
- Under the direction of classroom or ELL teachers, provide bilingual assistance in the instruction and assessment of students in designated content areas.
- Assist the instructional team by providing tutoring to individual students or small groups of students.
- Participate in regularly scheduled meetings of bilingual project staff.
- When appropriate, participate in building staff consultations regarding students speaking the language for which a particular Educational Assistant position is hired to advise on cultural issues.
- Help promote effective communication and understanding between the school and students¿ homes.
- Participate in school functions as appropriate.
- Assist students with movement between classes or to other assigned areas of the school.
- Monitor the behavior of assigned students during tutoring, movement between classes or other areas of the school, and during assemblies or field trips; refer problems to the classroom teacher or other appropriate staff member.
- Assist teachers with recording keeping relating to classroom assignments or student evaluations, organizing educational materials and researching information to support the teacher in future teaching activities.
- Contribute to the District’s Strong Schools, Strong Communities efforts by partnering with other staff to contribute to student achievement and the alignment and sustainability of resources.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
One of the following:Â
- An AA, AS, AAS (or higher) degree, orÂ
- Two years of post-secondary coursework (60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits) from an accredited institution of higher education which are applicable toward a bachelor’s degree, orÂ
- A passing score of 460 (or higher) on the ParaPro Assessment and either a high school diploma or a GED certificate.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of the linguistic and cultural differences which may affect ELL students and their parents who speak the language for which a particular Educational Assistant position is hired.
- Excellent oral/written communication skills in the English language and another language.
- Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with administrators, teachers, support staff, parents and students.
- Ability to assist with developing programs in cooperation with teachers and other educational assistants.
Preferred Qualifications
- Â Experience working with school-aged children in a structured setting (e.g., Teaching Assistant, tutoring, or related experience).

This is a 10 month position working 37.50 hours per week.
Salary and benefits are in accordance with the (union) negotiated labor agreement. The labor agreement and salary schedule can be found at https://www.spps.org/Page/33566. The minimum rate of pay for this position is $17.85 per hour.

Transcript – Unofficial transcripts are accepted at the time of hire. You must submit official transcripts within 30 days of your start date. Formal credential evaluation is required for post-secondary education completed outside of the United States.
