Position Summary

Responsibilities

The essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following fundamental duties:

  • Promote effective communication between student’s homes and the school and promote parent attendance and involvement in school and at school events.
  • Assist in parent involvement activities, which may include, but is not limited to ordering materials, recordkeeping, meeting formally and informally with parents from the school community, and recruiting parents for district-wide activities.
  • Plan, schedule, coordinate and conduct parent training sessions and other activities, including securing presenters, advertising the training sessions and other activities such as registering parents and children, preparing refreshments, participating in events and field trips, and related activities.
  • Perform monitoring and follow-up activities with families by initiating contacts through telephone calls, development and distribution of flyers, etc.; keep parents informed about school activities and encourage them to attend and visit school; gather basic information about family needs (e.g., need for assistance with food or rent); identify and refer families to appropriate community resources.
  • Maintain appropriate records and data as mandated by Title I guidelines; submit to principal as appropriate.
  • Establish and maintain communication channels between parents and community services and/or school personnel; attend community meetings as a representative of the program and advocate for the program; provide information about the school and general information about educational programs to parents; report concerns and needs of parents and children to school personnel.
  • Assist licensed staff with the day-to-day academic instructional program by tutoring students, both individually and in small groups.
  • Under the direction of licensed staff, administer appropriate standardized tests as required by the program.
  • Monitor student work during study time, including assisting students in starting assignments, answering questions, and motivating students to keep working until assignments are completed.
  • Promote a good learning environment during instructional and study time by maintaining a quiet, business-like area and indicating to students that they are expected to do assigned work.
  • Monitor and manage student behavior by providing appropriate activities, attention and direction, feedback, and consequences for behavior.
  • Participate in staff meetings to discuss information relating to the program and students¿ progress.
  • Maintain records, including testing, student progress in program, attainment of graduation standards, and other program-related information.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Experience working with computers
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Good organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse and ¿at-risk¿ students individually and in small groups.
  • Ability to use diverse methods of instruction and behavior management skills
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
  • Ability to work with students in academic areas of math, reading and writing

PAY, BENEFITS & WORK SCHEDULE:

This is a 10-month position working 37.5 hours per week with an FTE 0.937. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Teaching Assistants negotiated labor agreement. The salary schedule can be found on the Labor Agreements page. 

Pay range for this position is:  $25.04 – $39.31 EA2

Maximum hiring step EA2 = step fifteen (15)
