Position Summary:
The Mission of Spero Academy is to provide individualized and adaptive education to help students grow
academically, emotionally, and socially.
We are a nonprofit charter school devoted to educational programs for students with disabilities that foster a
sense of respect, responsibility, and community. We are looking for a Special Education Teacher who is eager to
work with elementary students on the autistic spectrum or who may have other social, emotional, and physical
disabilities. We are looking for someone who can be creative and meet individual needs while continuing to
balance all state educational requirements for students with an IEP.

What You Need:
● Current Elementary and Special Education licensure by the State of Minnesota. (DCD/moderate
to severe, ASD/moderate to severe, ABS, or EBD)
● Ability to maintain the “not disqualified” status upon completing a criminal background and MN
disciplinary incidence research
What You Will Do:
● Use MN State Standards and MN Academic benchmarks to write appropriate lesson plans and
adaptations.
● Integrate the school curriculum into fun and meaningful lessons designed to maximize students’
potential.
● Develop the ability to use the Synergy Student Information System and Parent Portal.
● Demonstrate an understanding of the due process, including disability criteria for the area of service,
quality Evaluation Report (ER) writing, and quality Individual Program Plan (IEP).
● Facilitate IEP meetings, data collection, and analysis.
● Lead and supervise your classroom team.
● Communicate effectively, appropriately, and timely with families and caregivers, providing relevant
educational, due process, and school information.
● Meet due process timelines.
● Evaluate students using appropriate tools.

● Understand and implement School-wide Discipline Policy according to standards and student needs.
● Work with your collaborating teachers and colleagues to meet student grade level, IEP, and all student
needs.
● Assist students in the use of the correct assistive technology.
● Create and maintain student due process records within the correct database
● Aid in students' transition into and from school as needed.

● Ability to lift up to 50 pounds or move quickly to contain a student
