Position Description
Drivers Education Behind-the-Wheel Instructor provides behind the wheel insruction to Owatonna School District drivers completing approved Drivers Education classroom instruction and successfully passing the Drivers Permit Test. The Behind-the-Wheel instructor works with students with varied levels of experience to provide individualized driving insruction for the purpose of of obbtaining a driver’s license. This position is on the road, real time driving in a Driver Education training car with a passenger side brake pedal. The position requires scheduling flexibility. The number of lessons scheduled each day/week cannot be guaranteed; however, each student must receive at least six hours of driving time to comply with state certification.This position is part-time (not to exceed 30 hours per week). Weekend availablity required. Daylight and night time driving hours are required. A successful candidate will use excellent communication skills, patience and their training and understanding of traffic laws and driving regulations.  2 positions available.

Position Requirements
A valid Minnesota driver’s license with a clean driving record. Completion of a certified driving instructor training program resulting in licensure as a Behind-the-Wheel driving instructor through the MN Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board. A successful candidate must be 21 years of age or older and verify their knowledge of applicable laws and regulations regarding driving instruction in the State of Minnesota. A job description will be provided detailing essential duties and performance responsibilities. Key requirements include preparing driver’s training vehicles and its occupants for safe and efficient travel, providing instruction that complies with motor vehicle operation and safety, maintaining necessary records and reports, report mechanical problems immediately, communicate to parents and students any areas of improvement to work on while practicing behind-the-whell sessions at home, Complete drive assessment documentation for each student at the end of behind-the-wheel sessions. Flexibility and consumer-oriented approach to programming required along with consistent and reliable attendance..Communicate with and respond to the Community Education Leadership Team in a timely manner and attend program meetings as scheduled, 

Language Skills
Demonstrate proficiency in the English language using positive body language and tone of voice. Read, write and comprehend instructions and short correspondences.

Physical Demands
Mobility and ability to occassionally life and/or move up to ten pounds. Hearing, speech and sight are required. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Other Skills & Abilities
The Behind-the-Wheel Instructor must possess skills in building quality relationships with students and their families while maintaining cooperative staff partnerships. Display flexibility in day-to-day situations and contribute to a positive team environment. Maintain the confidentiality of all information regarding students. Provide parent communication as appropriate concerning program instruction and assessment. A successful candidate must demonstrate sensitivity to a variety of cultures and the ability to communicate with a diverse cross-section of individuals and organizations. Perform dutities within a structured schedule with an awareness of Drivers Education standard operating practices, Minnesota Statute and Board of Education policies.

Flexible Schedule between the hours of 8:00 am – 8:00 pm
Up to 30 hours per week.

Pay Rate
Master Teacher Contract Schedule C: $36.60/hr
