Qualifications/Experience:

  • Counselor: Master’s Degree with coursework in counseling, psychology, sociology, or related field from a school accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Services and Minnesota Guidance and/or Counseling licensing, experience working with counseling students or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Social Worker: Bachelor or Master level degree in social work, Must hold a current social worker license with the Minnesota Board of Social Work and meet all Tier 3 licensure requirements for Minnesota School Social Work.

Successful background check.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Needed:
Knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of school social work or school counselor work.  Effectively communicate ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing and establish effective relationships with students, staff, parents and administration.

Exemplifies the following Five Character Traits: compassion, respect, responsibility, self discipline and honesty. 

Specific Tasks:
Performs intermediate professional work assisting students and supporting families by providing strategic services that address the social-emotional-environmental issues that may interfere with the educational process. Works with the school PBIS team to support students and staff. Working with parents/guardians, teachers, school administration, and community-based resources, the School Social Worker/Counselor helps remove barriers that may limit a student’s access to a fulfilled educational experience. In doing so, this implements strategies that promotes students’ learning, positive school adjustment and creates meaningful relationships, and related work as apparent or assigned. See the attached job description for additional information. Hours Per Day:
1.0 FTE
As per contract 

The expected start date is late December, possibly early January through the first week of April.
