Job Summary:

The Mahtomedi Community Education (CE) Communications & Engagement Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies to raise awareness of CE programs, boost program enrollment and event participation, and engage with stakeholders. 

This role includes managing the CE website, social media accounts, print materials, and messaging to Mahtomedi Community Education’s internal and external stakeholders. Additionally, the Communications & Engagement Coordinator will oversee all CE events and programs focused on engagement and themes identified in the District’s Strategic Plan.  Work is performed under the direction of the Director of Community Education.

Minimum Requirements

  • Two or more years of related professional experience in communications
  • Four-year degree in a related field (communications, journalism, public relations, etc.) preferred
  • Valid MN Drivers License

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and implement an annual CE communications plan in alignment with the District’s Strategic Plan and Brand, using industry best practices for research, plan, implementation, and evaluation
  • Manage the Facebook and Instagram social media accounts for CE, including content curation and calendar, moderation, analytics, and implementing industry best practices
  • Oversee the curation of three CE catalogs, Early Childhood catalog, and work in coordination with our consultants for design and print distribution.
  • Manage CE web page maintenance and analytics
  • Capture photos and videos of CE classes and events and maintain a content library
  • Ability to organize, attend, and provide media-related coverage of classes and events that take place before or after typical workday hours. On-call whenever programs or services are running, regularly including nights and weekends
  • Draft and distribute a monthly Community Education eNewsletter to stakeholders.
  • Work in coordination with the Director of Communications at Mahtomedi Public Schools on school and district-level communications and opportunities for collaboration
  • Provide ongoing input, information, and materials (as requested) that support internal and external communication efforts about programming and opportunities. 
  • Provide regular analytics updates to the Director of Community Education on communications tools.
  • Cultivate relationships across diverse communities to provide relationship-building and engagement events for community members that align with themes identified in the District Strategic Plan centered around education, employment, finances, health/mental well-being, individual passions and interests, and real-life experiences
  • Seeks out and attends professional development opportunities that can enhance individual performance and offer insights on new trends and opportunities related to communications and community engagement
  • Attends and leads various meetings and committees
  • Provides excellent customer service and responds to inquiries and complaints
  • Under the Direction of the CE Director, creates and evaluates future programming based on students and community needs while maintaining current trends

What Makes a Great Candidate

  • Exceptionally strong writing skills with experience writing for social, web, and electronic communications
  • Strong listening skills and ability to understand and represent different ideas
  • Experience with social media management, including developing content calendars and reviewing analytics
  • Skilled in Canva design program
  • Ability to learn from and communicate effectively with diverse populations
  • Experience implementing storytelling related to strategic plans and established brand standards
  • A dynamic personality who will challenge and inspire others with new ideas and systems
  • Experience with community building and organizing logistics for large events
  • Photography and video skills ( reel creation) using digital cameras and phones
  • Excellent use of Google Suite
  • Collaborative style and ability to maintain professionalism under stressful situations
  • Strong project management skills. Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time
  • Experience working in a school-related setting preferred
