Program Instructors provide instruction and training for all ages and abilities of students. They may work at a variety of levels teaching different skills to either individuals or groups. We are seeking a High School Director/ Choreographer for ISD728 Community Education Summer theatre program of Willy Wonka presenting at Roger High School Performing Arts Center. 

Job Summary:

• This position is responsible for overseeing the creative vision of a theatrical production, including directing actors, designing choreography for dance sequence, and ensuring a high-quality performance while tailoring the experience to the developmental needs of high school students, working closely with the theatre and community education and administration to execute the production within set parameters.
• Develop repertoire for students at different stages of their development.
• Maintain clear communication with students, staff, and parents.
• Professional demeanor and positive attitude when interacting with staff, parents, and community members.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Attend production meetings and collaborate with artistic and technical directors.
• Work within budget constraints with CE organizers and technical staff.
• Model appropriate behavior and represent the school district positively.
• Creative Vision:  Ability to interpret scripts and develop a cohesive artistic vision.
• Creative Direction: Implement stage blocking and character development, ensuring age-appropriate choreography.
• Casting and Rehearsal Process:Conduct auditions and cast students based on abilities.
• Lead rehearsals with clear direction, fostering a supportive environment.
• Teach acting techniques and stage presence tailored for high school students.
• Technical Collaboration:vWork with technical crew to integrate set, lighting, and sound elements.
• Collaborate with costume designers to enhance character development.
• Student Development: Encourage student creativity and input during rehearsals.
• Communication: Address questions or concerns with the Director or Production Manager.

Qualifications:

• Background in theater or drama. Proven directing and choreographing skills with a strong grasp of theatrical practices.
• Proficiency in various dance styles for middle school choreography.
• Understanding of middle school students’ developmental needs.
• Strong organizational skills, with a track record of dependability and punctuality; attendance at all rehearsals and performances is mandatory.
• Ability to manage large student groups effectively and inspire collaboration.
• Leadership qualities that promote team cohesiveness, supervision of volunteer and student directors as needed.
• Capacity to work independently and show initiative.

Schedule:

• Jun 9 – Jul 20, 2025 (4 weeks total)
• 1 staff prep and orientation week (scheduled days between 6/9 – 6/29) 
• 3 week high school production of Willie Wonka Jr. (scheduled days 6/30 – 7/20)
