About the Windom Area School District

The Windom Area School District serves the communities of Windom, Bingham Lake and Wilder.  We are in rural southwest Minnesota – approximately 1 ½ hours from Mankato and 1 ½ hours from Sioux Falls on state highways 71 and 60.  We are a small district with approximately right under 1,200 students.  We own and maintain 4 buildings – Highland building which serves our preschool and early childhood special education program, Winfair building, which is leased to the SWWC Service Cooperative, Windom Area Elementary building which serves students in grades K-4 and the Windom Middle/High School building which serves students in grades 5-12.  The Elementary and MSHS building are located on the same campus.

The district has an operating budget of $24M and has a long-standing positive fund balance and strong accounting practices.  The Fiscal year 2024 annual audit has been completed and is posted on the district website.  All contract negotiations are completed through June 30, 2025.

Education and Experience (Minimum level of education and experience required)

  • Bachelor’s (BA/BS) degree in business, finance, accounting, or related field
  • Three to five years of public-school finance related experience preferred
  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a job-related field

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Minimum competencies for job performance)

  • Considerable knowledge of Minnesota public school finance
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, compare, and present data
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with teachers, administrators, board members, and other professionals
  • Ability to present to large and small groups
  • Ability to use modern technology and related software, particularly Excel spreadsheets
  • Ability to demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment toward the job and mission of the school district

Salary range is $80,000 to $100,000 based on experience in public school finance.
