Position: Bicultural Liaison 
Work Schedule: 
 40 hours per week
Start Date: ASAP
Pay: $27.69 – $33.23
Benefits: Per the Non Unit Guidelines

Qualifications:                                   

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Ability to pass, or evidence of passing, reading, writing, listening, and speaking tests in English and Karen
  • Understanding of K-12 educational system
  • Access to transportation for traveling between buildings 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience as an advocate
  • Experience as an interpreter
  • Understanding of immigrant/refugee needs
  • Desire to participate in change efforts to create more culturally sensitive schools and community services
  • Ability to make presentations in front of staff and parents
  • Ability to work well with Karen families
  • Satisfactory past attendance record

  Responsibilities:

  • Communicate District 622 policies and procedures to Karen families
  • Advocate on behalf of families and students whose first language or culture is Karen
  • Facilitate communications, interactions and activities among parents, students and staff that recognize and celebrates cultural differences
  • Ensure that school procedures are inclusive
  • Educate school staff on Karen culture
  • Other related duties as assigned
