Seeking a highly qualified Behavior Interventionist with knowledge and skills necessary to assist individuals, groups, and systems through the application of positive behavior supports.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director, the Behavior Interventionist for Mid-State Education District Special Education programs plays a vital role in providing a consistent, safe environment conducive to learning. In this role, one helps lead, model, and encourage respect, communication, and competency through the use of interventions, the development and implementation of positive behavior interventions, the reinforcement of positive behaviors, and use of de-escalation techniques. Professionalism, empathy, and a non-judgmental approach are essential when working with students receiving special education services to ensure their safety and growth, and in order to help them understand and exhibit appropriate behaviors at school and in the community. The Behavior Interventionist serves students in a team environment daily, where collaboration, communication, and adaptability are key to the success of the individual, the team, and the success of the students. This role is performed following District policy and State/Federal Laws.

RESPONSIBILITIES:Â
- Consult, communicate, and work cooperatively with the WIN Teams to provide appropriate programming for students and maintain a positive work environment for all.
- Consult with the Team on informal behavior assessments and positive behavior support plans.
- Implement positive behavior interventions and supports that support student progress, reinforcing positive behaviors, utilizing de-escalation techniques, and redirecting inappropriate behaviors. Will be expected to participate in the use of restrictive procedures. (Physical Holds and Seclusion, if necessary)
- Comply with School Board policies and administrative practices, including those procedures outlined in the staff and student handbooks.
- Help to maintain safety of all students and the school environment.
- Utilize data to inform programming decisions and planning for student success directly related to behavior.
- Uses flexible thinking and adaptability to address student needs and when necessary, responds calmly during crisis situations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must hold a Bachelor’s Degree (with 2000 hours of clinical supervision) and/or current MN License in the area(s) of Social Work, Psychology, Board Certified Behavioral Analyst (BCBA), preferred.
- Experience implementing positive behavior interventions and supports.
- Willingness and ability to work with students receiving a high-level of special education services related to behaviors.
- Handle With Care (HWC), and implement restrictive procedures
- Experience/training in Life Space Crisis Intervention (LSCI), helpful
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication with staff, students, and parents that is maintained during high-stress and crisis situations.
- Basic computer and email skills.Â
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Â
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds weight and up to adult-size body weight with two-to-three-person lift.
- Ability to support a student’s full body weight up to adult size.
- Frequently requires standing, walking, lifting, bending, leaning, and repetitive motions.
- Occasionally requires sprinting, sitting, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
- Ability to tolerate sudden jarring movement.
- Work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may require wearing of personal protective equipment.
- Locations are generally moderately noisy.Â
Hours per Day: 8.0
Schedule: 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, following the assigned school calendar
Anticipated Start Date: As soon as possible
Contract Length: 2024-25 school year
Salary:Â As negotiated and per MSEA Contract
