Avid Student Tutors

Tutors are key to the success of the AVID program.  Tutors work with AVID students in study groups and individually, assisting them in all academic areas to make progress commensurate with college expectations. Being part of a program at the forefront of education is highly challenging and requires extraordinary commitment, yet its rewards are many.   More than anything else, tutoring in AVID is the best preparation possible for a career in teaching or in any other job which is people oriented. AVID tutorials take place in small groups that are subject area specific. AVID student tutors assist their peers to achieve their full potential by facilitating collaborative tutorial groups. 

 

POSITION: 

Avid Student Tutor (Temporary, 3-4 Positions per Term)

LOCATION:

Eden Prairie High School

CLASSIFICATION:

Student Worker

RATE OF PAY:

$15.00/hour (effective 1/1/23)

HOURS PER DAY:

84 minutes/day

START & ENDING TIME:

Tutors will provide support for one hour of the day, following the EPHS daily schedule.  Preferably 5 days per week, but minimum of 3 days per week would be considered.

WORKING DAYS PER YEAR:

8-9 weeks per term

 

QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:

  • Currently enrolled as a student at Eden Prairie High School

  • AVID tutors should be excellent role models of motivated, organized, successful students who believe that the AVID students will succeed, too.

  • The tutors should represent balanced academic strength backgrounds, some liberal arts majors, others science or mathematics majors.

  • The tutors should be people who will work in a supportive manner with secondary students 

  • They must be willing to meet regularly to discuss student progress and to confer with the teacher about future tutorial plans.
