Austin Adult Learning Program Assistant

The Austin Adult Learning Program Assistant will coordinate student and program data, student registration and testing, and assist the teachers, coordinator, and navigator with student retention, attendance, and other procedures within the Adult Learning Program.

Hours: 
Mondays 8:00 – 6:30 pm, Tuesday – Thursday 8:00 – 3:30 from mid-August through May 31.

Essential Duties: 

  • Data management using Minnesota’s Adult Basic Education data system
  • Assisting with registration which entails describing the program, assisting with paperwork, testing, etc.
  • Testing of students using both online and paper testing
  • Assisting the Navigator with contacting students and following up on attendance
  • Management of office supplies and student materials
  • Ordering supplies for program
  • Providing excellent customer service to students, staff, and partner organizations
  • Proctoring GED and MTEL assessments
  • Other duties as assigned
  • First contact for new students
  • Primary contact for Family Lit program
  • Office and computer lab manager
  • Stay apprised of all current and new distance learning programs approved by the MN ABE program
  • Monitor distance learning hours and assign allowable hours according to parameters set by MN ABE program

Essential Skills:

  • Ability to learn new IT systems
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work with people of various ages, ethnic backgrounds, and socio-economic levels
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Organization skills and ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Conscientious
  • Bilingual (Spanish and English) preferred
  • Self-starter/independent employee

Education: 
AA degree in related field preferred or three years of experience in a similar position
