Essential Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of SPED due process systems

  • Demonstrated understanding of academic and behavioral interventions

  • EBD, SLD, or ABS license

  • Knowledge of student behaviors and management skills relating to small groups of students

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with both adults and students

  • Demonstrated creativity, flexibility, and extreme patience

  • Ability and willingness to collaborate with teachers and other colleagues

  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational and communication skills

  • Understanding and belief in Augsburg Fairview Academy’s unique mission and vision

Desired Qualifications

  • Minnesota Special Education teaching license

  • Knowledge of post-secondary transition plans

  • Keen expertise in pedagogical best practices

  • Experience teaching in an urban high school

  • Experience collaborating with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and administrative staff

  • Experience collaborating with students, families, and the diverse communities our school serves

  • Track record of success serving youth with significant developmental risk factors

  • Training and experience with Circle of Courage, including RAP and LSCI

  • Work experience in a charter school

Due Process / Caseload Management

  • Enrollment / Intake Meetings:

    • Review incoming IEP

      • Translate services to AFA

    • Complete Prior Written Notice

    • Schedule Meetings

  • Annual & Initial Meeting / IEP Completion:

    • Write Transition Goals

    • Complete transition services page

    • Standardized Assessment Scores for the PLAAFP

    • Complete Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP)

    • Progress monitor behavior/transition goals

    • Write and monitor Organizational Goals

  • IEP Completion

  • Coordinate and finalize progress reporting of all academic IEP goals

  • Assure Related Services

  • Parent/ Community communication

  • Summary of Performance 

Evaluation

  • Develop Re-Evaluation Plan

  • Evaluation Coordination / Related provider coordination

Progress Monitoring and Student Management

  • Maintain appropriate student data and other records and complete/submit reports as required

  • Maintains materials and/or manual and electronic files/records for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items; providing written reference; and/or meeting mandated requirements

Teaming

  • Adapts classroom activities, assignments, and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher (e.g. reinforcement of IEP goals and objectives, etc.) for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives as well as providing an opportunity for all special education students to participate in classroom activities

  • Collaborates with general education teacher(s) or other staff as assigned for the purpose of communicating information, resolving issues, and providing services in compliance with established guidelines

  • Communicates effectively with teacher(s) or other staff as assigned for the purpose of promoting continuous improvement of individual student goals

Instructional Planning and Implementation

  • Maintain Co-Teaching Schedule

  • Progress reporting for students in co-taught model

  • Develop Modified Core Content Curriculum by course (Course within a Course)

  • Monitor student grades / missing assignments

  • Student Schedule Supervision w/ Inclusion Teacher

  • Coordinate support rooms

  • Schedule regular meetings with General Education Teacher

  • Create and monitor Paraprofessional schedule

  • Supervise IEP transition goal progress monitoring

  • Student outreach/communication – calls of concern

  • Provide Transition services in Resource settings

Transition Planning

  • Coordinate and facilitate transition planning needs associated with students in grades 9 – 12. 

  • Maintain and guide the formulation of individual student transition portfolios based on student needs.

Additional Duties

  • Develop and review behavior plans or support plans for Sped students

  • Train and coach para for consistent and proper implementation of plans 

  • Intervene to deescalate for Tier 3 behaviors 

  • Support paraprofessionals with behavior/ implementation needs

  • Supervise and coach Paraprofessionals

  • Other duties as assigned
