Intermediate District 287 is looking for qualified candidates for an American Sign Language Interpreter position!

Our American Sign Language Interpreters serve a critical role in ensuring full communication access within the educational environment between Deaf and Hard of Hearing students who use sign language and their teacher, the student’s peers and other school personnel. This position serves as an integral member of the student’s school-based team.

Experiences integrated into this position include:
- Participation in district-wide and department specific professional development (apx. 8 full days per year) targeted towards further development of expressive and receptive signing skills, educational interpreting, equity, educational access, and collaboration with teammates. Â
- Professional development includes instruction and learning opportunities provided in American Sign Language (voice off) and in EnglishÂ
- Participation in a network of 15+ interpreters who work across the K-12 and transition settings. This network provides opportunities to share knowledge, resources, provide support, and partnership
- Non-certified interpreters participate in weekly mentoring with the lead American Sign Language Interpreters
- Coaching, feedback and support from supervisor fluent in American Sign LanguageÂ
- Walk throughs and on-site connect points from a supervisor fluent in American Sign LanguageÂ
- Opportunities may be available to work independently at a site, at a site with a small group of interpreters, or serve as a float supporting needs across the district.

Position Details:
- Up to 35 hours per week
- Salary Range:Â $27.33 – $32.69 per hour (depending on experience and education)
- Certified ASL Interpreters may be eligible for $3,000 signing bonus

Requirements:
- Must have completed a training program affiliated with a state accredited educational institution AND hold one of either 1, 2, or 3.
- Pathway 1
- An interpreter and/or transliterator certificate awarded by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID);Â OR
- A general level proficiency certificate at level 3 awarded by the National Association of the Deaf (NAD);Â OR
- Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) at the 4.0 level.
- Pathway 2
- Graduate from an accredited Interpreter Training Program AND
- Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) with a score of 3.5-3.9
- Current 2 year provisional certificate or interpreter extension AND
- Willingness to participate in weekly mentoring
- Pathway 3
- Graduate from an accredited Interpreter Training Program AND
- Current 2 year provisional certificate AND
- Willingness to participate in weekly mentoring
