Academic TUTOR
JOB DESCRIPTION
The American Indian Education Program Academic Tutor is essential in providing a learning atmosphere that directly enhances the students served. Working closely with the AIE classroom staff, faculty and under the direction of the Building Principal and American Indian Education Program Director, the Academic Tutor will serve students identified as needing additional support.
Reports to:
? Building Principal and Director of American Indian Education Program
? Keeps all necessary personnel informed of absences and or leave requests.
Job Summary:
Tutor and work with students identified and assigned by the AIEP Director and the building principal.
? Have regular contact with students and provide a safe, friendly, welcoming, and supportive environment.
? Network and confer with Indian Education staff, Attendance Coordinator, Parent(s)/Guardian(s), Guidance Counselor and ISD #94 staff and faculty on student progress.
? Maintain contact with parent(s)/guardian(s) and assist families in accessing Infinite Campus Parent Portal.
? Provide tutoring to students on basic skills and class work as directed by teachers.
? Provide tutoring to special education students as directed by the teachers and as needed to help meet the goals and skills identified in the studentsโ IEPs.
? Encourage students to participate in school activities and community programs.
? Be punctual with scheduled tutor sessions.
? Engage in student classrooms and one-on-one or small group settings.
? Articulate the unique and special education needs of our American Indian students.
Summary of Essential Job Functions:
? Establish a schedule with staff and students.
? Monitor student performance.
? Keep and maintain a regular schedule of parent contact.
? Report any student data requested by the building principal and the AIEP Director.
? Attend parent/teacher conferences.
? Attend student specific staff meetings and PPS, as directed.
? Attend LIEC Parent Committee meetings, as scheduled with the AIEP Director.
? Attend Program meetings and engage in Program Events.
Position Qualifications:
? Two (2) years of post-secondary training is preferred.
? The American Indian Tutor needs a working knowledge of academic concepts to be shared. The tutor should develop, know, and utilize diverse teaching approaches to individual students.
? Ability to proficiently utilize technology when communicating with staff and parents as well as in implementing online learning options for students.
? Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing is required.
? Strong organizational skills are required.
