All Day Montessori Teacher  (preschool age, 3-6 years) & After School Coordinator 

The All Day Montessori Teacher & After School Coordinator will create an engaging and nurturing environment consistent with AMI principles, and collaborate with colleagues, parents, and children to provide appropriate, individual learning opportunities. The primary responsibility of this position is to prepare the full day Montessori environment and to coordinate the after-school programming for Children’s House students. The All Day Montessori Teacher & Children's House After School Coordinator will oversee lunch and recess processes daily as well as any after school assistants where applicable.

About Oak Hill Montessori Community School

Building on a rich, 60-year legacy, Oak Hill Montessori transitioned to a Public Charter School in 2021 to increase accessibility of an authentic Montessori education. We serve children 16 months through 8th grade with our lower school being tuition based, and upper school being tuition-free.

General Summary of Position:

Interactions with Students

  • Responsible for ensuring the health, physical and social/emotional well-being and safety of the children, ensuring children are supervised at all times.

  • Balance the structure of the environment to promote self-discipline and independence.

  • Treat children with dignity and respect and with sensitivity to their cultural and socio-economic background.

Interactions with Parents & Community

  • Establish a positive relationship with families.

  • Communicate with parents in person or via phone and email regarding updates or daily occurrences that pertain to the academic, emotional, and physical development of their child.

  • Keeps records of interactions with parents

Classroom Management & Program Planning

  • Prepare and maintain a complete and safe Montessori environment to include the classroom, playground, corridor and other common areas.

  • Plan the daily, weekly, and yearly flow of the class to make available the full range of developmentally-appropriate Montessori materials to the children.

  • Manage classroom inventory.

  • Collaborate and support classroom assistants, aides and student teachers in their duties and responsibilities.

  • Attend and participate in level-specific and all-school meetings and events including, but not limited to educational presentations and community events.

  • Maintain a high standard of confidentiality in regards to student and family information, organizational grievances and issues, and individual faculty matters.

  • Establish a dependable procedure for conflict resolution in the classroom and on the playground.

  • Set up lunch routine and environment with Montessori principles in mind

  • Sets up the after-school environment with Montessori principles in mind

  • Plans lessons and prepares materials and activities for after-school program

  • Purchases materials for after-school program according to budget provided to the program

  • Maintains daily sign-out sheet and reports discrepancies or changes to Accountant

  • Maintains classroom materials, keeping them clean and in good repair

  • Assists in the execution of all fire/tornado drills

  • Reports all accidents /incidents immediately and completes necessary forms as outlined in Staff Handbook

  • Perform miscellaneous projects and tasks as requested by the Head of School.

● Attend professional development opportunities annually as indicated by a personal growth and development plan.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

● Primary training and certification (Association Montessori Internationale/AMI), along with a BA/BS degree

● Adhere to AMI/USA and State of Minnesota licensing standards for quality assurance. Teachers qualified under MN DHS Rule 3

● A minimum of 2 years as an assistant or lead teacher, preferably within a Montessori environment

● Exceptional classroom management skills

● Strong verbal and written communication skills

● Ability to lead, train and supervise assistants and create a conducive learning environment

● Ability to articulate the mission and vision of the school

● Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office with willingness to learn other computer programs deemed necessary to complete work and reporting

● Current Child CPR and First Aid certification

● Must complete clearance of a background check

Physical requirements necessary to perform this job

● Perform light work, lifting up to 25 pounds

● Ability to supervise groups of children as well as individual children both indoors and outdoors without accommodations

● Hear and speak in order to use telephone and/or communicate with people inside and outside the organization.

● Effectively communicate in the English language, including following oral and written instruction.

● Stand and walk around the classroom repeatedly throughout the day.

● Apply manual dexterity, visual acuity and ability for computer keyboarding, office equipment use, reviewing detailed reports, information and fine print.

Work Environment

The work environment is primarily indoors with a variety of weather conditions when outside on a daily basis. Regular noise distractions.

Salary & Benefits: Commensurate with other charter schools of similar scope and size, and with the experience and qualifications of the candidate selected for the position.
