Supports African American students’ achievement outcomes by working directly with students, families, guidance counselors, district staff, administration, and community organizations to improve African American student outcomes.  Build  systems of support  that lead to improved attendance, sense of belonging, academic achievement, and improved graduation rates for African American students.

Hours/Day: 8 hours per day
Day/Year: 184 days per year
Sites: Burnsville High School, Burnsville Alternative High School, 6-12 Virtual Academy
Compensation/benefits: Unaffiliated Contract

  • knowledge and understanding of African American student experiences in education, as well as knowledge of broader diversity in education and the ability to address these issues through programming support and activities.

  • a commitment to social change including working to end all forms of oppression: racism, heterosexism, trans oppression, ableism, sexism, classism, etc.

  • Experience facilitating student support groups focused on student academic success and post-secondary planning

  • Ability to utilizes data to assess African American student progress 

  • Experience collaborating with campus-based mental health professionals to coordinate workshops and outreach that support the well-being and persistence of African American students

  • Ability to promote family involvement by encouraging families to attend and be active in all meetings and events related to their student

  • personal professional learning and development through a strong understanding of literature related to best practices in the education of African American students and family outreach & communication

  • success in participating on district and regional committees  

  • the ability to effectively manage and lead change, including changing practices, structures in a school system that may perpetuate inequities based on race, gender, and class as seen 

  • effective facilitation and personal use of technology as a communication tool to improve student achievement and manage work

  • the ability to manage dialogue effectively, valuing alternative points of view in planning and decision-making

  • that they are a visible community representative

  • courage to do what is best for students
