Description: The ABE instructor assesses needs, and within the assigned budget, plan and execute the most effective literacy/ ABE program possible for the assigned area. Collaborates and work effectively with other programs and agencies to plan and execute the necessary programming to meet client needs. Works cooperatively with assigned team of instructors, volunteers and other staff to plan and execute activities and to utilize available sites, materials and human resources to most effectively and efficiently reach identified, desired outcomes.

Job Summary:
1. Instruct adults in basic reading, math and writing skills as part of the learner-based classes.
2. Teach English as a Second Language (ESL) to adults using listening, conversation, reading, writing, and grammar as apart of learner-based instruction.
3. Analyze learners’ needs and assess their progress through the use if Individualized Learning Plan and assessment tools mandated by the state and Metro North Adult Basic Education.
4. Use appropriate techniques for individual learning styles.
5. Allow for individuals as well as group learning by use of computer assisted instruction or other methods preferred by the adult learner.
6. Record and submit client data and attendance hours to Metro Noth on a monthly basis.
7. Assist in the data keeping for class by accurately recording attendance, client progress, reasons for leaving, etc., for all learners.
8. Participate in all Metro North in-service, Community Education and District 278 in-service and staff meetings as assigned.
9. Pursue self-development through pre-approved seminars, in-service training, classes, etc.
10. Perform instruction duties at the Sherburne County Jail with inmates seeking their G.E.D. on a sub and rotation basis.

Qualifications:
* Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education and current Minnesota Teaching Certificate and will meet the teacher requirements of the district in which you serve.
* Good communication skills (written and oral).
* Ability to work well with others.
* Ability to assume initiative in program development and problem solving.
* Good organization skills.
* Ability to manage time and responsibilities.
* Knowledge of adult learning theories and development.
