General Job Description:
This position will offer an engaging elective for adolescent students (7th & 8th Grade). Electives at Great River are an opportunity for students to explore creative and engaging topics. The specific topics taught can vary depending on the candidates interests and experience. Past electives have included: Gardening, Urban Farming, Film Studies, Construction Math, Creative Writing, various Art courses, and various Physical Education courses. We seek an elective that is engaging, asks students to try new things, and aligns with our school mission.

Areas of responsibility and Concomitant Tasks:

  • Design and implement elective curriculum using  student centered learning, cooperative learning groups, and best practices within the field (Opportunities exist to build from previously taught electives)

  • Collaborate with colleagues to provide  high quality instruction 

  • Work closely with Program Coordinator to ensure effective curriculum instruction

  • Assess students using Standards Based Assessment model

Qualifications: 

  • Valid Minnesota Teaching License for grades 5-8

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Credential in Montessori (AMI or AMS or NAMTA), or open to training

  • Experience teaching in hands-on settings, interest and willingness to engage in trips and expeditionary learning with students

  • Knowledge of or experience teaching in the IB Diploma Program

  • Desire to be part of a team of professional educators who collaborate and create an environment that serves students holistically.
