Summary

Beacon Academy is seeking a dedicated and licensed Physical Education/DAPE Teacher to promote the relationship between physical fitness, emotional well-being, and social adjustment through exercise and activity. This position involves developing students' physical strength, agility, and coordination while fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.

Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, and individual/team sports, using Minnesota state standards.
  • Provide individualized and small group instruction, adapting curriculum to meet the needs of each student, with a focus on inclusivity.
  • Establish and maintain standards for student behavior to create a structured, productive classroom environment.
  • Evaluate student growth in physical skills, knowledge, and contributions in sports, providing appropriate feedback.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and contribute to a positive school culture that aligns with Beacon Academy's mission to inspire and empower all learners.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of physical education pedagogy and effective use of resources to enhance student learning.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learning styles, including students with disabilities and those with social-emotional and behavioral needs.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and parents.
  • Experience in implementing behavior management strategies and creating supportive learning environments.
  • Flexibility and responsiveness to meet the individual needs of students, ensuring an inclusive and dynamic physical education experience.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Current Minnesota teaching license issued by the Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB).
  • Licensure in Physical Education is required; DAPE certification is highly preferred.
  • Previous experience working with students with disabilities and knowledge of adaptive physical education is a plus.
