Position: Food Service Assistant
Location: Centerville Elementary
Start Date: ASAP
Times: 10:00 am to 2:00 pm
Hours: 4 hrs/day
Job Description:
1. Assists in the preparation and assembly of food items according to standardized recipes and proper instructions for the regular and alternate menus.
2. Sets up and maintains the quantity and quality of food on the serving line. Serves food to the students and staff in the appropriate portions and manner.
3. Assists with baking, mixing, and stirring activities to prepare food items for the meal service. Lifts as necessary to accommodate preparation.
4. Performs clean up activities as prescribed for meeting sanitation standards. Returns items to the appropriate storage area in the proper containers.
5. Assists in finished off prepared food items for special events/catering as required.
6. Assists the full-time cooks and cook/manager in gathering the data necessary for implementing the building level record keeping systems.
7. Facilitates good communication/positive environment with both internal and external customers.
8. Operates some kitchen equipment needed to prepare and serve meals and to clean up when meal preparation is complete.
9. Performs related work as apparent or assigned.
Qualifications:
1. Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree and some previous quantity food production.
2. Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to record data such as simple arithmetic and simple written directions.
3. Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
4. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
5. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representatives of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly (67-100% of the time) required to stand; use hands to fingers, handles or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee frequently (34-66% of the time) is required to walk and stoop. The employee is occasionally (0-33% of the time) is required to climb. The employee must regularly (67-100% of the time) lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently (34-66% of the time) lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally (0-33% of the time) lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
Wage/Benefits:
Starting $17.50/hr – as per current Food Service master contract
