Description

North Lakes Academy (NLA) is a K-12 charter school located in Forest Lake, Minnesota, a community about 25 miles north of the Twin Cities metropolitan area. NLA operates an elementary campus (grades K-6) and a secondary campus (grades 7-12) and serves 550 students. At all grade levels, NLA embraces the principles of small class sizes, personalized learning, and a diverse liberal arts education, which includes fostering the emotional intelligence of our students and building strong relationships between families, staff, and students. 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons aligned with district and state standards.

  2. Use various teaching methods, such as hands-on activities, group work, and multimedia tools to enhance learning while providing differentiated instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners. 

  3. Establish a positive, respectful, and productive classroom environment.

  4. Address behavioral issues in a fair and constructive manner, using restorative practices and PBIS when appropriate.

  5. Regularly assess student progress through formal and informal assessments (e.g., quizzes, tests, projects, observations).

  6. Provide regular feedback to students and their families about academic performance and areas of improvement.

  7. Work collaboratively with other teachers, school staff, and administration to support student learning.

  8. Participate in grade-level meetings, professional development opportunities, and staff meetings.

  9. Maintain an open line of communication with students, parents, and colleagues to ensure student success.

  10. Attend school events, field trips, and other extracurricular activities as required.

  11. Supervise students during recess, lunch, and other activities as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or a related field.

  • Valid teaching certification for the state of Minnesota.

  • Previous teaching experience at the elementary level (preferred).

  • Strong understanding of child development and effective teaching practices.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Passionate about working with young children and creating a positive, inclusive learning environment.
