2024-25 Substitute Interpreter

Position: Substitute Interpreter
Location: Districtwide

Seeking Interpreters for the following Languages:
Arabic
Hmong
Mandarin Chinese
Ormo
Somali
Spanish

Essential functions of the position may include but are not limited to the following:

• Work collaboratively with Student and Family Advocates and building administrators
• Partner with school staff in communicating information regarding attendance, grades, athletics, etc.
• Work in coordination with counselors, mental health and other support staff and/or administration to meet students/family’s needs 
• Assist school and district staff in deepening their understanding of and responsiveness to  speaking cultures represented in Centennial Public Schools
• Assist in supporting student academic success and goals 
• Partner with teaching staff to help build family connections 
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Proficiency in English and in one of the following languages:
  • Arabic
  • Hmong
  • Mandarin Chinese
  • Ormo
  • Somali
  • Spanish
• Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive and effective relationships with students, families and colleagues
• Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively, including excellent customer service skills with parents, students, staff, administration, and the community
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively cross-culturally
• Ability to motivate and inspire students; takes a student-centered approach 
• Committed to educational equity 

  Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree 
• Prior experience working in K-12 educational environment 
• Prior experience as an interpreter.
• Demonstrated ability to show initiative and function as a self-starter
• Demonstrated ability to maintain confidential information
• Experience working with students and families

Salary/Wages:
$50 per hour
