Non-Instructional Support Staff | On-site | 105847]]>Position InformationThis position will serve South Washington County Schools, Newport Elementary School. This position works 7 hours/day. This is a long term substitute position with the potential to become full time. Starting hourly pay is $28.74. Employees with interpreter certification will receive an additional $4.30 per hour.Nature of WorkIncumbents are responsible for facilitating communication between the deaf/hard of hearing students and staff and peers in the educational settings, and other activities.Typical Class ResponsibilitiesProvides communication links utilizing sign language interpreting or oral interpreting between hearing and deaf/hard of hearing individuals; and provides communication access for the deaf/hard of hearing students in the classroom, in lectures, and during the students’ daily interactions with others.Reviews curriculums, lesson plans, videos, and instructional materials in order to facilitate interpreting services.Educates staff about the deaf/hard of hearing student needs and accessibility requirements for student success.Performs other duties of a similar nature or levelTraining and Experience RequirementsAssociate degree (A.S., A.A.) or two-year technical certificate in Sign Language Interpreting.Licensing RequirementsCertifications recognized by RID and/or MN Department of Education preferred including CT, CI, NIC, NAD or EIPA.Knowledge RequirementsApplicable principles and practices needed to support deaf/hard of hearing students;American Sign language;Interpreting processes, standards, and techniques;Applicable tools, specialized equipment, techniques, methods, and materials;Understanding of the deaf/hard of hearing and the cultural awareness needed to support those students;Interpreters’ Code of Professional Conduct;Foundational proficiency in English linguistics;Customer service principles;Recordkeeping principles;Applicable local, state and federal laws, rules, and regulations;Computers and related software applications.Skill RequirementsProviding interpreting services;Analyzing and synthesizing information to be able to provide a linguistically and culturally equivalent message in the target language;Conducting needs assessments;Providing customer service;Preparing and maintaining records;Applying local, state and federal laws, rules, and regulations;Operating a computer and applicable software applications;Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with subordinates, coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.Physical RequirementsPositions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and seeing.Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
