Pay Rate: $28-$40 per hour

Job Summary:
The STEM Mentorship Coordinator is a new position that will organize mentorship programs related to science and engineering for students primarily in grades 6-8. These programs connect students with supportive adults who work in science and engineering fields, typically through a yearlong, project-based experience. The STEM Mentorship Coordinator will partner with community organizations to build Rochester Public Schools’ capacity to provide improved mentorship experiences to a greater number of students.
 
Responsibilites:

  • Aligns mentorship programs with the Rochester Public Schools Equity Statement and strives to recruit demographics of students and mentors who are historically underrepresented in STEM fields
  • Supports and expands existing after-school STEM Mentorship programs at Dakota, John Adams, Kellogg, and Willow Creek middle schools
  • Consistently provides essential day-to-day communications such as answering questions from families and clarifying instructions to volunteers
  • Works closely with leaders of partnering organizations to coordinate volunteers, Rochester Public Schools staff, and staff of partnering organizations
  • Builds multi-year relationships with stakeholders including students, parents, volunteers, community organizations, businesses, and higher education institutions
  • Produces promotional materials for stakeholders
  • Develops and delivers training materials for stakeholders
  • Coordinates student and family engagement events
  • Distributes need-based scholarships and project supplies within the constraints of a budget
  • Explores and implements best practices for mentorship, including those promoted by MENTOR Minnesota
  • Prioritizes student safety and is responsible for guiding volunteers through a background check process
  • Captures and interprets data for the purpose of program improvement
  • Compiles an annual list of awards won by mentees and assists in the completion of an annual report for STEM mentorship programs

Preferred Experience:

  • Managing projects, developing training materials, or planning events
  • Communicating and building relationships with stakeholders across multiple departments or organizations
  • Working with youth, especially in a mentorship capacity
  • Working effectively within time and budgetary constraints
  • Understanding of skills and processes used by scientists and engineers to solve problems and navigate uncertainty
  • Proficiency in maintaining shared files in Google Drive and using spreadsheets to process data
